Netflix Horror Master Joins Shudder For Fan-Favorite Franchise
Since debuting in 2012, the V/H/S franchise has become something that horror fans have grown to look forward to for its nearly annual releases. The anthology series depicts a collection of unique stories with each new entry, with each story written and directed by different individuals in the horror genre. And it has recently been announced that the latest entry, V/H/S/Beyond will feature filmmaker Mike Flanagan as one of its writers when the film debuts on Shudder this October.
Mike Flanagan And V/H/S/Beyond
Mike Flanagan has made a name for himself as one of the most creative modern horror directors, so fans are already eagerly anticipating what he will do for the film when it premiers on Shudder. His past work includes movies like Hush, and Doctor Sleep, as well as miniseries such as The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, and The Fall of the House of Usher.
However, Mike Flanagan will not be directing one of the anthology stories for Shudder but rather writing one of the stories on V/H/S/Beyond. It is Flanagan’s wife, Kate Siegel, who will be directing the story in her directorial debut. She previously was on the other side of the camera for acting work on The Fall of the House of Usher, having a history of collaborating with her husband.
The Mystery Behind The Title
Beyond that, details are scarce on the story. It has been revealed that the entry that the duo are working on together will be titled “Stowaway”. However, previous entries in the V/H/S franchise have been so varied that it is hard to learn much from a title. For fans who really want to know what Mike Flanagan is cooking up, they will just have to wait until October to see it on Shudder.
Justin Long’s Involvement
However, it is of course not just Mike Flanagan and Kate Siegel that fans will have to look forward to on this offering when it hits Shudder. Justin Long (of Jeepers Creepers and Barbarian fame) will be teaming up with his brother Christian Long for an entry that will be titled “Fur Babies.” And Justin Martinez will return to the franchise after having helped contribute to the very first V/H/S.
Piggybacking Off V/H/S/85’s Success
The varied talent involved for each new addition to the franchise makes it hard to predict what fans are going to get, but that surprise factor is part of what draws people in. And if the franchise’s most recent entry is any indicator, this upcoming movie should do well too. V/H/S/85 was the most viewed exclusive film premier that Shudder and AMC Plus had last year, so adding someone as beloved by horror fans as Mike Flanagan should do well for Shudder too.
Coming This October On Shudder
If you are a fan of Mike Flanagan’s work, tune in to Shudder on October 4th to catch the debut of V/H/S/Beyond. It will also be a chance to see what Kate Siegel can do when she is behind the camera for a change and what her style is as a director. It is sure to be one of the most talked about movies of the Halloween season.
