The Netflix Hit Show That’s Stuck At #2 Because Of One Incredible Success
Variety reports that a new limited series is making waves on the Netflix Top 10 list this week: The Fall of the House of Usher. This horror series, which is based on the writings of Edgar Allen Poe, garnered 6.3 million views, and secured the second place spot since its October 12 premiere. Though it’s evident that the Mike Flanagan series is quite popular, it’s no match for Beckham, the limited docuseries about David Beckham’s soccer career and private life, which currently sits at the number one spot.
The Fall of the House of Usher is in second place on Netflix’s Top 10 list, unable to beat out soccer legend David Beckham and his new docuseries.
Beckham: Limited Series has been number one on the Netflix ranking for two weeks, and racked up a whopping 11.6 million views during its first week. But the Netflix Top 10 lists always changes with time, and The Fall of the House of Usher is ahead of season 4 of Sex Education by a significant margin as of this writing. Beckham may have a considerable lead over House of Usher, but the latter is sitting pretty above the rest of the competition.
Netflix has always been a solid source for spooky original series, and it’s evident that The Fall of the House of Usher is satisfying viewers with its storytelling. Pulling heavily from the Edgar Allen Poe short story of the same name, as well as some of his other works, we’re told a harrowing tale about a corrupt pharmaceutical company’s CEO whose children suddenly start dying in mysterious ways.
We’re whisked away into a dark world of corruption, deception, greed, and paranoia, which should be expected from a series that adapts Poe’s works.
Though Netflix’s The Fall of the House of Usher is a work of fiction, it resonates with audiences through its portrayal of actions that can be related to our own lives in very real ways.
Beckham: Limited Series has been number one on the Netflix ranking for two weeks, and racked up a whopping 11.6 million views during its first week.
Of the themes explored in the series, fans and critics alike point to its social commentaries about the corruption of the ultra-wealthy, and the damage that they cause through their actions. As of this writing, the Mike Flanagan horror drama has received critical acclaim to the tune of a 91 percent critical score against an audience score of 76 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Mike Flanagan’s knack for storytelling has given him legendary status, and he has received praise from greats like Stephen King and Quentin Tarantino for his artistic instinct and ability to scare his audience without relying on cheap jump scares.
He even turned the Ouija franchise around with Origin of Evil, a sequel that garnered an 87 percent critical score compared to its ill-fated predecessor, which only received a five percent. Though a number two spot on the Netflix Top 10 list is nothing to scoff at, The Fall of the House of Usher is certainly giving Beckham a run for its money, and rightfully so.
Will There Be A Fall Of The Usher Season 2?
An unfortunate reality that we have to deal with, however, is that there are currently no plans for Netflix to renew The Fall of the House of Usher for a second season. The eight-episode run tells a complete story, and doesn’t leave room for a continuation. The good news is that sources indicate that Flanagan is far from finished, and has recently secured the television rights for Stephen King’s Dark Tower, which is one of his dream projects.
