New Netflix Hit Drama Finds Hope In Life’s Darkest Moment
It’s an open secret that we live in some bleak times, and many of us are just passing the time by sharing some very gallows humor with one another. If your own life has been steeped in black jokes, then you might appreciate Find Me Falling, a new romantic comedy on Netflix that’s currently #2 in movies on the streamer. Despite being designed to bring the laughs, this movie uses suicide as a major plot device, which can simultaneously serve as a trigger warning for certain audiences and an invitation to anyone with a weird enough sense of humor to dive in.
Not Exactly Getting Away From It All
What is Find Me Falling really about, though? The movie focuses on an American rocker who is trying to deal with his latest album being a flop (maybe Katy Perry can take a few notes from this guy). He buys a house in Greece to get away from it all, but the discovery that the house is built near a popular suicide cliff sends him on a rambling misadventure where he reconnects with the woman who once inspired his most popular song.
A Grounded Story About A Misunderstood Musician
While the rest of the cast is very talented, the primary reason most people tune into Find Me Falling is the leading man performance of Harry Connick Jr. Given his own musical background, the actor is able to make his character’s plight–that of the misunderstood musician–surprisingly believable. And it helps that he has such great chemistry with Agni Scott, who plays the old flame who comes back into his life and may just provide him with the purpose he’s been looking for.
Harry Connick Jr. Is The Perfect Lead Man
We’re always suckers for a good bit of “meta” casting, and putting Harry Connick Jr. at the center of Find Me Falling is a truly brilliant choice. While he has been acting in film and television roles since the early ‘90s, this is a man who has always been known more for his musical talents. But if we’re being truly blunt, he hasn’t been musically relevant in over a decade, which arguably adds a layer of personal investment in his onscreen portrayal of a washed-up musician who is focusing too much on the past.
Polarizing Reception
Interestingly, Find Me Falling is one of those films that critics hate and audiences love. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently has a critical rating of 32 percent, with critics complaining that the story feels uneven and that the film doesn’t always find the balance between romance and comedy. And if you only had these critics to go by, this is a movie you’d likely skip.
However, Find Me Falling also has a whopping 77 percent audience rating on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing. Since releasing on Netflix, the movie has established a major audience of very devoted fans. And with it coming hot off the heels of the quirky film Hit Man, we are seemingly living in a renaissance of offbeat romantic comedies.
Stream Find Me Falling On Netflix
So, which way, western fan? Will Find Me Falling make you want to jump off a cliff as the critics suggest or will it win you over like it has with countless others? The only way to find out is to take the plunge (so to speak) and stream it on Netflix today.
