Netflix’s Biggest Failure Made Show Creator Lose His Mind

Love is Blind

Since 2020, Netflix has been bringing reality TV lovers the goods with its unique and one-of-a-kind series, Love Is Blind. Over the last four seasons, audiences have gathered to see if love truly is blind with each season boasting more drama than the next. But, at the end of the most recent installment, the show bravely went where it never had before – dropping what was meant to be a live reunion – something that would go horribly wrong not only frustrating viewers at home but also the show’s creator, Chris Coelen.

While watching the live reunion show for Love is Blind on Netflix halted because of technical difficulties, series creator Chris Coelen nearly lost it.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Coelen says, “I lost my mind,” when an internal bug on Netflix caused chaos to ensue on what was meant to be an exciting step forward for the streamer’s takeover of reality TV. While those watching from their living rooms continued to refresh their screens, the Love Is Blind creator was just as annoyed as he tuned in and watched the madness unfold.

Ultimately, the “live” reunion wouldn’t be aired until the following day, marking a swing and a miss for the juggernaut platform.

I lost my mind. I was sitting in front of my TV like, ‘What is happening? Give me the updates. What’s going on?’ ”

When Netflix finally got its act together and fans were able to see the personalities from the show’s fourth season interact in the same room for the first time since filming, the drama was at an all-time high.

Led by the show’s hosts, Nick and Vanessa Lachey, couples including Kwame and Chelsea, Tiffany and Brett, and Zack and Bliss celebrated their love while others who split up including Micah and Paul and Jackie and Marshall duked it out for the last words. Also brought in for the finale was Irina who took over the role of the mean-girl villain in Love Is Blind’s latest season.

Despite Netflix’s technological snafu, there’s no doubt that the series will continue to be a numbers dream for the streamer as audiences just can’t get enough of the juicy drama surrounding the singles.

For those who may not know, Love Is Blind brings a handful of bachelors and bachelorettes together and drops them in what appears to be an underground bunker where they go on dates with one another. The catch is that there’s a wall between each of the daters meaning that conversation is the only connection determiner.

At the experiment, when they’re ready, proposals will be made and only then do the pairs get to be face-to-face with one another. From here, Netflix sends the couples on a group trip before allowing each of them to spread out on their own and live together to see if their connection is real.

At the end of Love Is Blind, each couple takes a walk down the aisle where they reveal if they want to marry the other one or if they’ve reached the end of the road.

Despite Netflix’s technological snafu, there’s no doubt that the series will continue to be a numbers dream for the streamer as audiences just can’t get enough of the juicy drama surrounding the singles.

With Netflix releasing the next installment of the reality show arriving in September, fans don’t have very long to wait for the next group of singles to learn the true meaning of love. And, should those backing Love Is Blind decide to do another live reunion event, hopefully, the streamer will learn from its mistakes so that fans and Chris Coelen won’t be losing their minds during more technological difficulties.
