Netflix Crime Comedy Unites Transformers And DC Blockbuster Stars

If you’re a fan of either Mark Wahlberg or Halle Berry, or both, you’re probably thrilled to see them team up in their new movie The Union on Netflix. Fortunately, we’ve got a little bit of information and a trailer to get us ready for the fun and thrills to come.

The best Mark Wahlberg movies are the ones where he’s not a total badass. He might have some good qualities and good potential to work with, but he also kind of makes fun of himself. When he takes himself too seriously, the films always feel inauthentic.

If you’re a fan of either Mark Wahlberg or Halle Berry, or both, you’re probably thrilled to see them team up in their new movie The Union on Netflix.

Fortunately, it looks like we’ve got a nice healthy dose of authenticity in The Union on Netflix. Apparently, the premise for the film came about when Wahlberg asked Stephen Levinson, his producing partner, what would happen if a regular, blue-collar worker got to be a spy.

The Union is Netflix’s latest romantic comedy with tons of action interspersed.

Well, we get to see the results on August 16. The Union on Netflix is highly focused on high school sweethearts who’ve lost touch over the years, Roxanne (Berry) and Mike (Wahlberg). The two dated in high school, and while Mike stayed in New Jersey for the next 25 years, Roxanne disappeared from Mike’s life. He’s long seen her as “the one that got away,” and he’s been pining for her ever since. In the meantime, he’s been a steelworker — a classic, fearless, smart-mouthed roughneck.

When Roxanne shows up in a bar one night, Mike thinks his dreams have come true, only to get stabbed in the neck at the end of the night and whisked off to London. The Union is Netflix’s latest romantic comedy with tons of action interspersed. Roxanne soon introduces Mike to her boss, Tom, played by the always amazing J.K. Simmons, who recruits him into The Union, a highly secretive government organization that cleans up after other organizations like the FBI and CIA. It turns out they need Mike precisely because he’s a nobody — a nobody Roxanne can trust.

It doesn’t hurt that The Union on Netflix has an unstoppable cast.

The trailer promises lots of guns, car chases, rooftop runs, and, yes, romance. What makes The Union on Netflix look like so much fun is not just the chemistry between Wahlberg and Berry (these two could have chemistry with a pillowcase) but the silliness that doesn’t feel ridiculous or cheesy. Think Uncharted or Fool’s Gold. It’s an adventure with slick moves and intriguing landscapes, but also comedy and a bit of slapstick thrown in.

Halle Berry in The Union

It doesn’t hurt that The Union on Netflix has an unstoppable cast. In addition to Wahlberg, Berry, and Simmons, we’ll also get Mike Colter, Lorraine Bracco (as Mike’s mother), Dana Delany, and more. Plus, the film is directed by Julian Farino, who did such a great job with Entourage that the series is still one to watch on repeat.

It will undoubtedly be a good time if the trailer is to be believed, and we don’t even have to rush to the theater to watch it. We should still grab some popcorn and candy, though. It seems like that kind of movie.
