It’s now been one full year since HBO bid adieu to one of its hottest TV dramas in recent years when Succession dipped out following a very successful four-season run. Since then, audiences have been doing their best to get their fix of family drama, internal politics, and cutthroat business storylines, seeking out shows like Showtime’s Billions to fill that void. But Netflix subscribers likely already know that the hottest new show with similar themes to Succession has a home with the streamer as A Man in Full currently sits at the number eight position on the platform’s Top 10.

The Set Up

Starring Jeff Daniels, A Man in Full is based on Tom Wolfe’s novel of the same name and sees the Dumb and Dumber star in a sort of Logan Roy-type role.

The miniseries transports audiences to Atlanta, Georgia where they meet Charlie Croker (Daniels), a real estate titan and not-to-be-messed-with entrepreneur who finds himself at the center of a political and business scandal.

Forced to declare bankruptcy, the house of cards that have built Charlie’s empire begin to fold in on themselves and he’s forced to go toe-to-toe with those who would wish him ill.

Cast

Along with Daniels, the show boasts an impressive call sheet featuring a slew of familiar faces that include Diane Lane (Man of Steel), William Jackson Harper (The Good Place), Lucy Liu (Kill Bill: Volume 1), Tom Pelphrey (Ozark), Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner), and more.

The Crew

A Man in Full comes from David E. Kelley, who’s been the creative vision behind numerous other titles including Doogie Howser, M.D., The Practice, Ally McBeal, Big Little Lies, and Big Sky. Joining the series as a director, Academy Award-winning actress Regina King (If Beale Street Could Talk) followed up her feature-length directorial debut, One Night in Miami… by helming three of the show’s episodes.

As far as how it compares to other similar titles, A Man in Full delivers both the drama of a cocky man in power thwarted by his own doing and adds a splinter of comedy as levity.

Jeff Daniels’ character is not only under the attack of those outside his family but also constantly clashing with his ex-wife and trying to hold on to his relationship with a much younger woman.

For every outlandish and wild call that Charlie makes in an attempt to save his empire, the fallout lands on the shoulders of those on his team and in his family – just like it has in other titles like Succession and Billions.

When it comes to family business dramas, A Man in Full is one of the more serious ones audiences can catch on Netflix, with the Theo James-led The Gentlemen being another winner.

Ratings-wise, A Man in Full has audiences and critics pretty divided, with many loving the performances of its main cast but not being overly impressed with the screenplay and overall adaptation of Tom Wolfe’s novel.

Still, as it sits at the number eight position on Netflix’s Top 10, those out there looking for a bingeable series to fill the void left by Succession will want to check out A Man in Full to satisfy their family business drama needs.
