Nathan Fillion Shows Off His Superpower In New The Suicide Squad Trailer
Nathan Fillion makes his debut in the latest The Suicide Squad trailer and man does this guy ever have some weird superpowers on display
Nathan Fillion doesn’t have much in the way of superhero chops, but that’s about to change. And it’s going to look, um, different than some things we’ve seen in the past. That’s because the dude is making his first appearance in the DC Universe in the much-anticipated The Suicide Squad from James Gunn. He will be playing a character with a particular, and very weird, set of skills. We got our first chance to see what his character will look like in the latest trailer which is about as action-packed as you can ever get a first look at a film. And Nathan Fillion looks like he’ll fit right in with the proceedings.
In The Suicide Squad, Nathan Fillion will make an appearance as Floyd Belkin which sounds like the name of an accountant or a janitor, something super boring. But Belkin has an interesting superpower that’s described pretty exactly with his alias name Arm-Fall-Off-Boy in the comics or in this movie T.D.K. (The Detachable Kid). It doesn’t take a lot of imagination to figure out what Belkin’s primary skill (if you can call it that) is and in this first trailer, we briefly get to see him in action. Check out the latest trailer for The Suicide Squad where Fillion/ Belkin/ Arm-Fall-Off-Boy shows up at the 1:27 mark:
As you can see, we can take the Nathan Fillion character pretty literally when it comes to his assigned name. T.D.K. as his name suggests can detach his arms from his body and still have them operate as if they are, you know, attached to his shoulder. Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn has a similar reaction to the viewer when we see his arms levitate off the side as he stands ready for action. How he ultimately uses this to his advantage in the live-action film remains to be seen but I suspect it’s nearly impossible for enemies to know which direction the dude is coming from.
The Suicide Squad is attempting to reboot the franchise following the David Ayer version which came out a few years ago. James Gunn appears to have taken a lighter tone with the comedy and a heavier tone with the violence and action which could lend itself to a superb film when it’s all said and done. With guys like Nathan Fillion detaching his arms to gear up for the fight, there’s no doubt things are going to get very weird, very quick.
Nathan Fillion has a pretty low billing in this film so it’s unclear how much he is involved in the story for The Suicide Squad considering the on-screen trailer time is pretty light in general and this cast is absolutely jam-packed. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn with Jai Courtney also back in the group as Boomerang. Plus, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis are back as Rick Flag and Amanda Waller respectively. But joining them will be Idris Elba as Bloodspot, John Cena as The Peacemaker, David Dastmalchian as Polka Dot Man (whose powers are also cooly on display in this trailer) Daniela Melchior as Ratcatcher, and many others.
The Suicide Squad is set to release this summer on August 6th meaning we’ll have to wait to get a true glimpse of Nathan Fillion and company. But man does it ever look like it will be worth it.
