Thor: Love and Thunder is set to hit theaters in just a few months. As excitement builds for the fourth installment in the Asgardian franchise, it seems like Natalie Portman’s Mighty Thor could be getting her own solo project. The news comes by way of MyTimeToShineHello, whose previous inside scoops have turned out to be true. KC Walsh added fuel to the rumor-fuelled fire by not only supporting the claim but adding to it by saying it’s more than “could” and closer to “will.”

Although this would be an interesting move for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio hasn’t made any official announcement in this regard just yet. But here’s what we do know about Thor: Love And Thunder so far. The Natalie Portman starrer will continue to tell Thor’s story after the multiverse-altering events of Avengers: Endgame. The movie will see the return of several popular supporting characters including Thor: Ragnarok’s Korg and Valkyrie. Lady Sif will also be returning after her appearance in the Disney+ series Loki.

The Guardians of the Galaxy will make an appearance in the film which isn’t a huge surprise since Thor was last seen leaving with them at the end of Endgame. But the most surprising return is definitely Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster who hasn’t appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since Thor: The Dark World. In terms of the story, we have no idea what happened to Jane during The Snap or in the time that followed. So it will be interesting to see how she ultimately reunites with Thor.

Natalie Portman’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe was announced by director Taika Waititi in 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con. He also revealed that her return incorporates Jason Aaron’s run on The Mighty Thor and elements of Marvel’s 2014 Original Sin storyline – which explains how Thor loses his powers. According to comic book lore, the God of Thunder becomes unworthy of wielding Mjolnir after learning a secret from Nick Fury. Although Thor initially attempts to reclaim the hammer, he eventually relinquishes the name and role after seeing Jane wield its power.

Directed by Taika Waititi, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, Thor: Love and Thunder will be the 29th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Starring alongside Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, and Tessa Thompson are Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Jaimie Alexander, Pom Klementieff, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Sean Gunn and Jeff Goldblum. Russell Crowe will make a cameo appearance as Zeus, the King of the Olympians.

Natalie Portman’s Thor: Love and Thunder also marks the introduction of Gorr the God Butcher to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Portrayed by Academy Award winner Christian Bale, it also serves as the actor’s return to the superhero movie genre after playing Bruce Wayne/Batman in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy from 2005 to 2012.

The response to Thor: Love and Thunder will probably be the biggest determining factor for the studio regarding who will ultimately wield Mjölnir. So we’ll just have to wait and see what the audience’s reaction to Natalie Portman’s Might Thor is like. The movie will be released on July 8, 2022.
