Spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder ahead:

There was a lot to like about Thor: Love and Thunder, not the least of which was Natalie Portman returning as a Mjolnir-wielding Jane Foster. While Portman might have been many fans’ favorite part of the movie, Portman herself apparently enjoyed getting Thor-levels of swole. In an interview with The Times, Portman said it was “unusual and wonderful” to be challenged to get bigger for her MCU role, adding how women are usually tasked with getting as small as possible for a role.

The hard work that Natalie Portman put in definitely appears to be paying off. Not only does the actress look absolutely ripped in the movie, but the film is already a box office smash, pulling in over $303 million worldwide over the opening weekend. Thor: Love and Thunder featured Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor Odinson as he sought his purpose in the galaxy. His adventures lead him to cross paths with the fearsome Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) and teaming up with his ex Jane Foster, who now dons the hammer and title of the Mighty Thor. Other actors include director Taika Waititi returning as Korg and Tessa Thompson returning as Valkyrie. We also get a glimpse of the MCU Greek pantheon, namely Russell Crowe’s Zeus.

While the stinger of Thor: Love and Thunder opens up the narrow possibility that we’ll see Natalie Portman return to the MCU in the future, it seems like her story arc is pretty much wrapped up for now. After Jane succumbs to her cancer, using Mjolnir one last time to take out Christian Bale’s Gorr, she meets Idris Elba’s Heimdall in Valhalla. This seems like a pretty definitive ending for Jane Foster, and while Portman enjoyed putting on the bulk to take on the role, it’s definitely not an easy thing to do over and over again.

Natalie Portman’s grand return to the MCU was certainly an exciting one, and even though we might not see her in any Marvel films anytime soon, she does have plenty of non-superhero projects lined up for the near future. Currently, Portman is filming the TV series Lady in the Lake. Lady in the Lake is based on the Laura Lippman novel and features Portman as Maddie Shwartz, a housewife and mother turned investigative journalist who sets out to solve a murder in 1960s Baltimore. Her path sets her on a crash course with Cleo Sherwood, played by Moses Ingram (Obi-Wan Kenobi). The show is set to be a limited series on Apple TV+.

Natalie Portman also has several films in the works including May December where she’ll co-star alongside Julianne Moore and an animated film called Foxy Trotter about a rock photographer. Meanwhile, the MCU will be moving forward with its own array of projects, including the finale of Ms. Marvel this week, the upcoming She-Hulk Disney+ series in August, and the next big blockbuster feature with Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in November.
