Exclusive: Natalie Portman Teaming With David Fincher In Assassin Movie
We've learned Natalie Portman will play an assassin in the upcoming David Fincher directed feature, The Serpent's Kiss.
She may not have achieved her goal of becoming an assassin in her first film Léon: The Professional, but now she’s getting another shot. Our trusted and proven sources tell us Natalie Portman (Thor: Love and Thunder) has boarded The Serpent’s Kiss, with David Fincher (Se7en) attached to direct. Portman will play an assassin whose latest high-profile job will find her caught in a web of deceit.
The Serpent’s Kiss will be produced by Focus Features and will mark the first screen collaboration between the Oscar-winning Natalie Portman and the thrice-nominated filmmaker David Fincher. It seems possible this is a sign that Fincher has developed something of an extended interest in the stories of assassins. His most recent project is the neo-noir action thriller The Killer, which likewise follows the exploits of a professional assassin.
Starring Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) as the titular lead, The Killer is based on a French comic book of the same name. The thriller is releasing on November 10, making the brave choice of going head-to-head with The Marvels.
Speaking of Marvel, the last time we saw Natalie Portman on the big screen was in last year’s Thor: Love and Thunder when she reprised the role of Jane Foster, this time with the powers of the Mighty Thor. With the way things ended for her character it seems likely we won’t be seeing her in the MCU again, but you never really can tell. With all the gods, goddesses, talking trees, and sentient raccoons of Marvel, assigning labels like “possible” and “impossible” seems a little silly.
Natalie Portman is next expected on the big screen in the romantic drama May December, directed by Todd Haynes (Velvet Goldmine). Portman will play an actress who visits a woman (Julianne Moore of Boogie Nights) she has been hired to play in a film, and whose presence does nothing to help the family she’s studying. The film will also star Charles Melton (Riverdale), Cory Michael Smith (Carol), and Piper Curda (I Didn’t Do It).
We don’t yet know when Natalie Portman will be filming The Serpent’s Kiss or when we can expect to see it in theaters. One sure bet, however, is that it shouldn’t be confused with the 1997 British romantic drama of the same name which starred the likes of Portman’s Star Wars co-star Ewan McGregor and the late Pete Postlethwaite.
