The Rob McElhenney show Mythic Quest is about to return. AppleTV+ announced they renewed the series for a third season. The series’ second season, which aired its finale in May 2021, was highly regarded by fans.

Mythic Quest follows a fictional game studio run by Ian Grimm(McElhenney). The series also stars Ashly Burch, most known for her video game voice work in projects such as Life Is Strange and Horizon Zero Dawn. It was reported in April that actor F. Murray Abraham would not be returning for Mythic Quest’s third season.

In addition to Mythic Quest getting renewed, AppleTV+ announced that the British Spy drama Slow Horses would return for a fourth season. Slow Horses follows a group of MI5 agents led by Jackson Numb (Gary Oldman). In April, Oldman spoke about possibly ending his legendary acting career playing Numb on the AppleTV+ series.

Mythic Quest has a lot of competition on Apple’s premium streaming service. The streamer is attracting significant talents such as Breaking Bad star Anna Gunn for an upcoming series titled Sugar. Gunn will join James Cromwell, Alex Hernandez, Lindsay Pulsipher, and Dennis Boutsikaris.

Apple TV+’s Mythic Quest isn’t even the only game-related project they have coming down the pipeline. It was reported in July that Apple would be entering an exclusive partnership with Skydance Animation to develop a project called Luck. The subject of the film was announced to be turned into a tabletop board game.

Mythic Quest’s Rob McElhenney has worked on several projects throughout his career. He’s most known for his work on the FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, playing the role of Ronald “Mac” McDonald. He’s also the co-owner of the Welsh association football club Wrexham A.F.C. alongside Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.

In the upcoming 10-episode third season of Mythic Quest, McElhenney’s Ian and the co-creative director of the game studio have formed a new company called GrimPop studios. The series is set to premiere on November 11th with two episodes. The remaining eight will release weekly.

Not many shows or movies have really delved into the video game industry. While studios are trying to get movies based on popular video game properties off the ground, Mythic Quest is probably one of the view projects to highlight the behind-the-scenes aspects of video game development. It’s also quite interesting to see a television show spotlight expansion packs.

A special episode of Mythic Quest titled “Quarantine” premiered on May 22nd, 2020, and focused on the Covid-19 pandemic. During the episode, much of the staff had to conduct virtual meetings while remaining home. The episode commented on how workers and companies adapted throughout the global pandemic.

Hopefully, the third season of Mystic Quest will have the same witty commentary as the “Quarantine” episode. The comedy overall has received quite a bit of praise from critics, even earning a Best Streaming Series nomination at the Hollywood Critics Association TV awards in 2021. The series was also recognized for hiring groups of underrepresented gender identities and people of color.
