Donald Glover’s upcoming Mr. & Mrs. Smith adaptation for Amazon Prime continues to stack up the on-screen talent. The most recent additions to the cast include Emmy award-winner Michaela Coel and The Batman stars John Turturro and Paul Dano. They’ll join Donald Glover and Maya Erskine, who are on board as the leads. Michaela Coel is known best as the creator, writer, director, and star of the HBO series I May Destroy You. Turturro and Dano have both been in Hollywood for years, with both actors playing villains in the recent The Batman which starred Robert Pattinson in the titular role.

Donald Glover also serves as co-creator of the Mrs. & Mrs. Smith adaptation alongside Francesca Sloane, who is also on board as the showrunner. The series is based on the 2005 film of the same name, which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie as married spies who are contracted to take each other out. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was originally on to play the female lead before amicably splitting from the project. Maya Erskine was later brought on as her replacement.

The Mr. & Mrs. Smith adaptation is reportedly scheduled to come out on Amazon Prime video sometime this year, but that remains to be seen. The adaptation is the first project to come out of Donald Glover’s massive deal with Amazon, that was reported to be somewhere in the eight-figure range. This deal won’t affect Glover’s standing with FX as he continues working on the final seasons of his hit series Atlanta.

While Donald Glover is always staying busy, it looks like his current commitments to the Mr. and Mrs. Smith adaptation, his work on Atlanta, and his work on the announced show Hive are keeping him extra occupied. Hive will likely be the next project we see come from Glover’s Amazon deal, and will be co-created by Janine Nabers. There is also the rumored Lando TV show to consider. Supposedly, Disney is thinking about bringing Donald Glover to reprise his role as a younger version of the dashing rogue Lando Calrissian that he first played in Solo: A Star Wars Story. In a CinemaBlend interview with Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, she mentioned that they were waiting on Glover to move forward. It seems like the series is essentially good to go once Glover has enough time to shoot for it.

Perhaps Glover will have time after he finishes the Mr. and Mrs. Smith adaptation and the fourth season of Atlanta. The fourth season of his critically acclaimed series is reported to be his last, so he won’t have to fulfill his multiple duties as a writer, director, and star on the show anymore. Then again, the obligations of Glover’s Amazon deal could also keep him occupied for the foreseeable future. It’s likely that there will be many more original series or movies to come out of the deal, so we’ll just have to wait and see if the Lando series will come to fruition. Until then, you can check out the most recent season of Atlanta on Hulu and you can check out the Mr. and Mrs. Smith adaptation on Amazon Prime Video when it hits the platform later this year.
