Morena Baccarin Returning For Deadpool 3 After All, And She’s Not Alone
Morena Baccarin will return in Deadpool 3 along with Stefan Kapicic, who played Colossus.
It was previously reported that Morena Baccarin was not officially set to come back in Deadpool 3 because, even though Ryan Reynolds and team had asked her to return, Marvel Studios had yet to agree with her terms. Well, it appears that those terms have been agreed on since Deadline has just announced that it’s official—Baccarin will return for the next Merc with a Mouth film, and so will Stefan Kapicic (who played Colossus). It’s a good thing, too, because the Deadpool threequel just wouldn’t be the same without Wade Wilson’s matching puzzle piece.
Fortunately for Deadpool 3, Morena Baccarin and Stefan Kapicic will return and they’re joining several other return cast members as well as some new faces for the upcoming movie. Karan Soni and Leslie Uggams will also be back as Dopinder and Blind Al, reprising their roles for the third time. Emma Corrin and Matthew MacFayden are new players being introduced into the franchise, though their roles in the film have yet to be disclosed.
Hugh Jackman will make a first time appearance in the Deadpool franchise but will be reprising the role of Wolverine from the X-Men franchise for the umpteenth time since X-Men came out in 2000. While Jackman had previously claimed he’d retired from the role, it was inevitable the actor would come out of retirement since Wolverine is as essential to Deadpool as Morena Baccarin’s character Vanessa is to Wade Wilson. How exactly Wolverine will fit into the plot of Deadpool 3 has yet to be announced.
Morena Baccarin returning for Deadpool 3 means that she will officially enter the MCU since this is the first Deadpool movie to be adopted by Marvel Studios after Disney bought Fox in 2019. Shawn Levy (Free Guy) is set to direct the threequel and will also produce alongside Reynolds. Kevin Feige of Marvel fame will also produce since Deadpool is officially a Disney property.
However, just because Disney owns the Deadpool rights now doesn’t mean that audiences will miss out on all the over-the-top violence and profanic fun the Merc with a Mouth promises, as Feige has previously confirmed that Deadpool 3 will be the MCU’s first rated-R movie. Additionally, even though Morena Baccarin and Ryan Reynolds worked with different directors in the first two films, Deadpool 3 should have the same irreverent feel as the others in the franchise since the script will be penned by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who wrote the previous two movies.
Despite her return to Deadpool being up in the air recently, Morena Baccarin has been busy. She’s completed 16 projects since Deadpool 2 came out in 2018, working in a variety of fields, including movies, television, voice work, and games. Now that Deadpool 3 is officially on the schedule, the threequel joins five other projects the actress has in the works, and almost all of them are in pre-production, meaning that the actress will remain busy for the foreseeable future.
Currently, Deadpool 3 is scheduled for a November 8, 2024, release date and is scheduled to begin filming at the end of May.
