Morena Baccarin Is Not Set To Return In Deadpool 3
Morena Baccarin says that while she's been asked to return for her franchise role in Deadpool 3, she and Marvel have yet to "agree on terms."
If you’re a fan of the foul-mouthed anti-hero antics of Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds), then you’ll be thrilled to know that Deadpool 3 is slated to begin production on May 22, 2023. And the film is going to have everything you’d expect: razor-sharp wit, action, high-level toilet humor, and even Wolverine! The only thing that’s missing is Morena Baccarin who says that she and Marvel have not “agreed on terms” of a possible return to the role of Vanessa Carlysle, according to Variety.
For those of you wondering why Morena Baccarin would even be considered for the Vanessa Carlysle in Deadpool 3, considering she was killed off in Deadpool 2, the answer comes it the form of a potential new timeline. Since Deadpool was acquired by Marvel-Disney, it will be the first Deadpool movie that’s actually set in the MCU, and they may be ready to explore new territory.
As for what the terms are, your guess is as good as ours. Contractual obligations are a complicated matter, and the terms can be anything from Morena Baccarin’s compensation for her performance in Deadpool 3, or whether she wants to be part of a multi-picture deal or not. Baccarin went on to say that “this movie is going to be much more about Wolverine and Deadpool. So We’ll see. Hugh is going to be a huge part of it. I’m sure he’ll be great.”
While Morena Baccarin’s participation in Deadpool 3 remains up in the air, Hugh Jackman will have a prominent amount of screen time portraying Wolverine alongside Reynold’s Deadpool. In regard to the timeline, Jackman has gone on record that his reprisal will not mess with the 2000’s X-Men films that ended with Wolverine meeting his fate in 2017’s Logan.
The way we see it, Deadpool 3 will be a resounding success just like Deadpool and Deadpool 2 whether Morena Baccarin reprises her role as Vanessa Carlysle or not. The former raked in $782.6 million at the box office, and the latter topped out at $785.8 million. Throw Wolverine’s intimidating countenance into the mix along with Deadpool’s incessant wisecracking, and you’ve got two bachelors in their physical prime taking on the world.
But if Morena Baccarin and Marvel agree on the terms of her participation in Deadpool 3, maybe Wade Wilson’s fiance is exactly who we need to tie the whole story together. After all, Deadpool and Wolverine are the ultimate odd couple, and testosterone (and tension) will be running high.
And the door is certainly open for Morena Baccarin’s return to the Deadpool franchise based on the mid-credits sequence from the second installment. For those who don’t watch the credits, or just need a refresher, Deadpool goes back in time to prevent her murder from happening, which leaves things open-ended.
Deadpool 3 starts production on May 22 and is currently slated for a November 8, 2024 release. So if negotiations between Morena Baccarin and Marvel are still up in the air, we’re almost out of time! Though we’re sure that no matter what direction Deadpool 3 will take in regard to casting Vanessa Carlysle (or if her character will appear at all), we’re certainly excited to see Deadpool and Wolverine back on the big screen.
