Netflix Monster Season 3 Casts The Most Infamous American Serial Killer
We’re just a few days away from the premiere of the second season of Netflix and Ryan Murphy’s dramatized true-crime anthology series, Monster, and Season 3 has officially landed its leading star. News broke that Sons of Anarchy alum, Charlie Hunnam is set to appear in the upcoming season as one of the country’s most notorious serial killers, Ed Gein. It will be quite a change in the way that audiences have seen the actor over the last several years as he transforms himself into the mentally unstable killer from Wisconsin.
Who Is Ed Gein?
Those who already know the story of Ed Gein and the ripple effect that he had not only in the world of true crime but also in the horror genre of film will be really excited about Monster Season 3 from the jump. Gein grew up living on the family farm, with an uncomfortably close relationship with his mother, Augusta, that would influence the rest of his life. After Augusta passed, a broken-hearted Ed sealed off her room and kept it as a living memorial to the woman who he loved so much.
The Murders
If the story stopped there, it would be freaky but not enough to land a Ryan Murphy-backed series. Instead, Monster Season 3 will likely pour much of its focus into the crimes that happened after Augusta’s passing. You see, Ed Gein was a grave robber whose actions would accelerate, leading him to commit two murders – that we know of.
Going To Top Season 1
The likelihood of Ed Gein also being behind the death of his brother, Henry, is a rather probable one, and there’s a big question mark over how many other slayings Ed may have committed but gotten away with during his lifetime.
When the police finally came to his door, they were shocked by the sight inside as their perpetrator had decorated his home with human skin and bones from the graves that he robbed and the women he murdered. While we saw many unspeakable things in Season 1 of Monster, Season 3 will likely take the cake.
The Inspiration For Two Horror Classics
Ed Gein’s brutal slayings became the inspiration for some of the most iconic horror films of the last 100 years, inspiring directors like Alfred Hitchcock and Tobe Hooper for their movies, Psycho and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, respectively.
Once found guilty of his crimes, Ed Gein was shipped off to a mental institution to live out his days, eventually dying in 1984. It will be interesting to see just how much of the killer’s life Ryan Murphy and the rest of the creative team cover in Monster Season 3 as Ed Gein is one of the most complex cases out there.
Netflix’s Monster Series
One of Netflix’s biggest hits to date, the first season of Monster initially aired in the fall of 2022 and followed the crimes committed by Jeffrey Dahmer. With Evan Peters (American Horror Story) in the leading role, the debut installment also starred Niecy Nash-Betts (Reno 911!) who would win an Emmy for her work. Following record-breaking viewership numbers, the studio immediately ordered two more seasons, with Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story set to precede Monster Season 3.
