There are so many exciting clues for Marvel’s Phase 4 in WandaVision. It’s clear that while we can make sense of many pieces of the puzzle right now, a lot of the hints in the show will make more sense on a rewatch after we get some new movies. We’re already gaining more perspective on events from the series as casting announcements are made. Teyonah Parris, the actress who plays Monica Rambeau, has been confirmed for Captain Marvel 2. Will this be the movie where we learn more about Monica’s reaction to hearing mention of Captain Marvel? And what does it mean for the events from WandaVision’s post-credits scene?
In the fifth episode of WandaVision, Jimmy Woo and Darcy Lewis are talking about the events in Endgame. They’re talking about how Scarlet Witch could have defeated Thanos. Jimmy Woo says that Captain Marvel could have done so, and Monica Rambeau’s demeanor completely changes. She is tense, she is unhappy, and she does not want to talk about Carol Danvers. This is a drastic change from when we saw Monica Rambeau as a child in the first Captain Marvel movie. She adored Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, the best friend of her mother.
However, we know that Monica Rambeau’s mother has now passed away. We also know that when her mother was going through a great deal, including her death, Carol Danvers wasn’t around. Captain Marvel was away helping people on other planets. Fans are assuming that Monica Rambeau, also known as Photon, resents Carol Danvers for not being there. This does seem to be the most obvious answer, but hopefully, more will be revealed behind Monica’s feelings. As a prominent member of S.W.O.R.D., and with her long list of responsibilities and what she saw her mother go through, it seems like Monica may be more understanding of Captain Marvel not being around. There is also a popular fan theory that Carol Danvers and Monica’s mother were more than just friends. Rumors have claimed that Captain Marvel 2 will confirm this. If that’s so, it only makes Carol not being there even worse.
What will Monica Rambeau have to say to Captain Marvel when the two finally meet? And it seems like meet they definitely will. We know that actress Teyonah Parris has been cast in Captain Marvel 2. This all plays into the post-credits scene from WandaVision where we last saw Monica. Since it aired, people have been doing their best to break down everything that was said. We see Monica Rambeau in an abandoned movie theater. A person walks in, who is then revealed to be a Skrull. They say, “I was sent by an old friend of your mother’s.” They then add “He’d like to meet with you.” Monica asks where, and the Skrull points up. The Skrull doesn’t say who “he” is, but it’s been assumed that they meant Nick Fury, that Monica is going into space, and that this will lead to her meeting with Captain Marvel.
While actress Teyonah Parris can carefully confirm that Captain Marvel 2 will show Monica Rambeau and Captain Marvel finally talking, Marvel stars have to be pretty tight-lipped about what they reveal. Often, the actors only know their own scenes, and only close to the time of filming. With the buildup from WandaVision, it will be good to finally see the two meet in person and talk about everything that’s happened to the pair since Captain Marvel. The sequel is scheduled to be released November 11, 2022.
