With the Marvel Cinematic Universe soon wrapping up its Phase Four with the upcoming sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in theaters, and James Gunn’s The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special on Disney+ later this year, audiences seem to be looking forward to what Marvel Studios has for its future phases. The anticipated opening of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania next year will kick things off for Phase Five, introducing more action-packed drama for Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang. Now, it appears that merchandise has been leaked reflecting a redesigned look for MODOK, one of the villains of Ant-Man 3.

The picture posted to the social media platform Twitter yesterday highlights a t-shirt for the upcoming Ant-Man 3, depicting MODOK in yellow and red tints. According to a report by MovieWeb, the new design of MODOK shows the character in a full-body suit, which is slightly different than how they have been portrayed in other versions of the famous comic book villain. On ABC’s television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a character originally intended to be MODOK was performed by actor Zach McGowan, often in human form without the use of the suit.

This first image of MODOK in Ant-Man 3 will likely strike up a discussion on fan channels about the character’s design and look. The film’s director, Peyton Reed, has yet to confirm what actor will play the villain in the movie, but that MODOK will be a mutated but enhanced individual with a large head. Bill Murray has joined the cast of the film in an undisclosed role, so many are predicting he might voice MODOK after all.

The cast of Ant-Man 3 is impressive, despite not definitively knowing who will portray MODOK in the upcoming third installment of the franchise. Paul Rudd is returning as Scott Long, aka Ant-Man, with Evangeline Lilly reprising her role as Hope van Dyne, aka The Wasp. Actors Michelle Pfeiffer, Michael Douglas, and Randall Park are also coming back for another round of superhero fun.

But a newer face will take over the reins of supervillains in Ant-Man 3, and it’s not just MODOK. Jonathan Majors will continue his role as Kang the Conqueror, a character that was first seen (in one variant) last year in the first season of the Disney+ series Loki, costarring Owen Wilson and Tom Hiddleston. The character is meant to be part of the multiverse that may see through to other future phases of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, peaking with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and possibly Avengers: Secret Wars.

For MODOK’s part in Ant-Man 3, the secrecy at Marvel Studios seems to be increasing every day. Footage from the film was released at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con and Disney’s D23 Expo over the weekend, but images of the character have not been shown to the general public yet. The image of MODOK on a t-shirt posted to Twitter appears to be the only characterization the public can see of the character prior to hopefully more images surfacing in the lead to Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania debuting in February 2023.
