Pedro Pascal Explains Why He’s In Ads For Mobile Games
Pedro Pascal says that he is in the Merge Mansion mobile gaming ads because he likes mysteries.
Not only is Pedro Pascal taking over the most popular streaming shows, starring in The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, but now it seems as though Hollywood’s hottest actor is taking over social media as well. TikTok users may have been surprised when they scrolled up to see Pascal appearing in what seemed to be a trailer for a thrilling mystery but then realized what it really was was a commercial for a mobile game, Merge Mansion. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Pascal is breaking his silence on why this A-list actor is making commercials for mobile games.
Pedro Pascal says that it was his curiosity to explore other methods of content creation, in combination with his love of mysteries, that inspired him to accept the opportunity to work with Merge Mansion. In three 60-second spots, Pascal can be spotted donning the persona of Detective Tim Rockford, who has been assigned the case of figuring out what mysteries lie within “Grandma’s” enigmatic home.
At the end of the spot, Pascal’s Rockford is exasperated by the mystery and says, “Everything points to Grandma. It’s almost like some twisted game.” Almost.
It isn’t surprising that Merge Mansion would be able to pull an actor of Pedro Pascal’s caliber into starring in one of their commercials. In fact, Pascal isn’t the first major actor to be featured in one of the game’s campaigns, with Kathy Bates (best known for the film adaptation of Stephen King’s Misery) having already worked with the company in the past.
Merge Mansion is owned by the Finish gaming company, Metacore, and it is one of the most successful mobile games in the world. In 2021, the game averaged about 800,000 daily players and amassed $40 million the same year. With an income of that size (and probably more, considering the data is a few years behind), it’s no surprise that the company would be able to hire big names like Pedro Pascal and Kathy Bates, as well as host publicity events like a recently held interactive event that allowed fans to enter a mansion and solve a mystery in “real-life.”
Pedro Pascal says that mystery is one of his favorite genres, hence why the Merge Mansion games were such a good fit for the actor who was looking to expand his content creation experience and learn more about modern gaming practices. But mainly, the actor says that he is “just drawn to things” that he thinks he’d enjoy.
Apparently, what the actor enjoys is quite a lot because Pedro Pascal has a full schedule. In addition to The Last of Us and Star Wars’sThe Mandalorian, Pascal also has five upcoming projects in the works.
Pedro Pascal is currently filming The Uninvited, a comedy about a stranger who crashes a party that also features Walton Goggins and Rufus Sewell. Two productions, Strange Way of Life, a short western drama, and Freaky Tales, a drama set in 1987 Oakland, California, are in post-production. Pascal is also scheduled to soon film My Dentist’s Murder Trial, a biopic that also stars Hellboy’s David Harbour, and Tropico, a thriller that also features Willem Dafoe and Morena Baccarin.
Pedro Pascal has come a long way since starring in one episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1999 and has since become a household name. With how many projects are currently on his plate, in addition to the mobile game ads, Pascal will likely remain an A-list celebrity for a very long time.
