Milla Jovovich Is Making A George R.R. Martin Movie
Milla Jovovich is headlining a new adaptation of a George R.R. Martin story.
Milla Jovovich is set to star in a new movie based on George R.R. Martin’s short story “In The Lost Lands”. She is teaming up for the fantasy movie with her husband, director Paul W.S. Anderson, who she has worked with on the Resident Evil franchise and the recent movie Monster Hunter. She’ll be co-starring with Dave Bautista, who plays Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The team behind this project will be shopping the movie at the European Film Market event soon. This yearly event is one of the top places where international film and media meetings take place. In The Lost Lands will launch there, which must be a relief for Milla Jovovich. She was first attached to a movie for this George R.R. Martin project back in 2015. It was attached to a different production company at the time and fell through. As a fan of Game of Thrones, that must have been particularly disappointing.
Though Martin first published this story in 1982, when Milla Jovovich was seven years old, you could have believed the part was written for her. Jovovich is set to play the role of Gray Alys, a sorceress known for being incredibly powerful and incredibly scary. While the movie is billed as a fantasy, there are definitely dark and horror elements. She has a meeting with a queen who wants the sorceress to find her a way to become a shapeshifter. Taking on this quest, Milla Jovovich’s character teams up with a drifter named Boyce, played by Dave Bautista. They travel to the Lost Lands, a ghostly wilderness full of demons and other terrors.
Currently, Deadline and other outlets are only mentioning the title short story from George R.R. Martin for this project. However, it’s believed that this will be the combination of three of his short stories. In 2015, that was the plan. The movie will be titled In The Lost Lands after the 1982 short story. That story follows Gray Alys, who will be played by Milla Jovovich. The movie will also include characters and other elements from “The Lonely Songs of Laren Dorr” and “Bitterblooms”, both of which are short stories Martin published in the late 1970s.
While this is a big day for Milla Jovovich, it’s also big news for George R.R. Martin. This isn’t his only big announcement this week. Recently, Martin has pitched five different projects to HBO. The company chose one and made an announcement this week. That new project isn’t based on his own work. Instead, they’ll be working together to adapt Roadmarks, a 1979 fantasy novel from Roger Zelazny. The novelist was best known for his series The Chronicles of Amber, but wrote great standalone stories like Roadmarks and A Night In The Lonesome October. This is a touch of a personal project for Martin, who was famously good friends with Roger Zelazny.
While we just saw Milla Jovovich team up with Anderson in Monster Hunter, it’s promising to hear the two will be teaming up again. While she surely wanted the project to move forward in 2015, there are a lot more names attached to the project this time around. Hopefully things will go well for the production company shopping the project at the virtual EFM meeting and there will be more news for In The Lost Lands soon.
