Michelle Pfeiffer’s Most Iconic Catwoman Moment Was Done In One Take, See The Behind The Scenes Video
See Michelle Pfeiffer perform her iconic whip stunt as Catwoman in just one take.
Michelle Pfeiffer is a woman of many talents, and apparently, handling a whip is one of them. Pfeiffer is known for giving one of the most iconic Catwoman performances of all time in Tim Burton’s Batman sequel Batman Returns, and the scene of her whipping the heads off of some mannequins is arguably her character’s most iconic moment. Surprisingly, Pfeiffer was so good with the whip that she was able to do that stunt in just one take, which you can check out below:
It’s already rare for actors to do their own stunts, especially with something as specific as handling a whip. Clearly, Michelle Pfeiffer is dedicated to her roles, and she wanted to make sure she could embody the role of Catwoman as much as possible. The way she’s able to knock off those mannequin heads looks effortless, causing the Batman Returns crew to burst out into applause after the director yells cut.
Michelle Pfeiffer managed to stand out as Catwoman in a movie that was full of iconic performances. Tim Burton’s Batman Returns featured Michael Keaton as Batman and Danny DeVito as Penguin, but Pfeiffer managed to steal every scene she was in. The upcoming The Flash movie will even bring back Michael Keaton as Batman after all these years, so maybe we could hope for a surprise appearance from Pfeiffer.
However, Michelle Pfeiffer moved to the other side of the comic film aisle and joined Marvel as Janet Van Dyne. While not quite as iconic as her Catwoman role, Pfeiffer still brings gravitas to her Marvel role as the former Wasp and wife of Michael Douglas’ Hank Pym. After making her debut MCU appearance in Ant-Man and the Wasp, she appeared in Avengers: Endgame and the recent Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.
It seems unlikely that we’ll see Michelle Pfeiffer return to her Catwoman role anytime soon, but we should get to see her continue to return as Janet in future MCU movies. There’s no word on where we might see her pop up next, but it seems like a safe bet that she would at least show up in Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars. Given her run-ins with Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, a role in the former seems especially likely.
In the meantime, Michelle Pfeiffer has an upcoming film that seems well outside the wacky world of Catwoman or the MCU. Her next film, titled Wild Four O’Clocks looks to be a grounded drama about two young boys who are placed in the care of their estranged grandmother. The film is directed and written by Peter Craig.
While it doesn’t seem super likely that we’ll be seeing Michelle Pfeiffer returns as Catwoman anytime soon, you could always revisit her performance by streaming Batman Returns on HBO Max. The film is especially worth a rewatch when you know that iconic mannequin scene was done on the spot in one take. We can also look forward to seeing Zoe Kravitz taking on the torch of Selina Kyle when she returns for Matt Reeves The Batman 2.
