Michael Keaton’s Dementia Killer Thriller Reveals Plot And Release
2023 was a good year to be a Michael Keaton fan as the actor once again donned the Batsuit and used his brains and brawn to try and save the world in The Flash. And, if you thought that was great, 2024 will be even more incredible as the actor will not only appear in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2, but audiences will also spot him in a thriller titled Knox Goes Away. Saban Films has picked up rights to the movie, which is also directed by Michael Keaton, and is hoping to get it into cinemas over the next year.
Even better, Saban did fans a huge favor by dropping the film’s plot and giving them an idea of what attendees saw at this year’s Toronto Film Festival, where Knox Goes Away premiered. The project sees Michael Keaton in the leading role as an aging hired killer who begins to feel the confusing memory loss sickness – dementia. Hoping to make up for a life of brutality and murder, the man takes on a job that puts him as the person in charge of saving his estranged adult son’s life.
Gathering an all-star cast for his sophomore venture into directorial work, Michael Keaton will star alongside Al Pacino (The Godfather), James Marsden (Jury Duty), and Marcia Gay Harden (The Morning Show). Included in the ensemble cast are Joanna Kulig (She Came to Me), Suzy Nakamura (Spy School), John Hoogenakker (Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan), Lela Loren (The Man from Toronto), and Ray McKinnon (The Continental: From the World of John Wick).
Along with directing and starring, Michael Keaton also produces Knox Goes Away. As mentioned, the thriller marks the second time Keaton has stood behind the camera and lent his vision to a production. His first foray into filmmaking came in 2008’s The Merry Gentleman.
Starring alongside Kelly Macdonald (No Country for Old Men), Michael Keaton led the film as Frank Logan, a professional killer who befriends a young woman who has fled to Chicago to escape an abusive relationship. An unlikely pair of friends, both lend each other a hand, creating a strong bond and support system. Clearly, Keaton must have a thing for playing and directing himself as a hitman with the plot for The Merry Gentleman and Knox Goes Away both orbiting around a hired killer.
While Michael Keaton fans are undoubtedly excited to catch the legendary star in his latest helmed and starring project, it’s his reprisal of the title ghoul in Beetlejuice 2 that’s drawing the most hype for the actor’s 2024 release schedule. Featuring a call sheet that includes Jenna Ortega, Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Willem Dafoe, Monica Bellucci, and Justin Theroux, the sequel will pick up the story three decades later, bringing both familiar and new faces into the fold.
As for Michael Keaton’s latest directorial project, as the film has already gone through post-production and celebrated its premiere at TIFF, hopefully, a wide release date reveal is just around the corner. Stay tuned for more information about Knox Goes Away.
