Michael B Jordan will reprise the role of Erik Stevens aka Killmonger in the upcoming crossover movie Avengers: Secret Wars. According to our trusted and proven sources, the Creed star will be one of many actors who are returning for the event, about which few details are currently known. However, given that Marvel Studios seems to be pulling out all the stops when it comes to this one, it is no surprise that Michael B Jordan is coming back for Secret Wars.

Despite the character dying at the end of 2018’s Black Panther at the hands of his cousin T’Challa (the late Chadwick Boseman), Michael B Jordan has already returned to the Marvel Cinematic Universe several times prior to Secret Wars. His first reappearance was in the animated series Marvel’s What If…? in which he voiced an alternate version of Killmonger in a universe in which he allied with a pre-Iron Man Tony Stark, only to betray him and instigate a war between Wakanda and the rest of the world.

Michael B Jordan reappeared in the final two episodes of What If…? as part of a group of multiversal defenders assembled by Uatu the Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) to fight against an Infinity Stones-wielding version of Ultron. The team also included versions of Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), his cousin T’Challa, Gamora (Zoe Saldana), and Black Widow (Lake Bell). Ultimately, that version of Michael B Jordan’s character betrayed the group and ended up locked in a pocket universe with Arnim Zola (Toby Jones), so it is unlikely to be the one we see in Secret Wars.

More recently, Michael B Jordan returned as Killmonger in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever as part of a vision to Shuri (Letitia Wright), in which he encouraged her to give in to her desire for revenge and anger, Palpatine-style. As we have previously reported, Michael B Jordan is signed up for multiple Marvel projects and it seems that Secret Wars is at least one of them.

The actual plot of Secret Wars is being kept tightly under wraps for the moment by Marvel, but it is known that it will be loosely based/inspired by the 2015 comic book miniseries of the same name, which itself was inspired by the 1984-1985 series. In the former series, the fragments of a number of universes are stitched together by a cosmically-powered Doctor Doom (fashioning himself “God Emperor Doom”) to create a single Battleworld with elements of numerous different timelines.

As such, that is likely why we will see not only Michael B Jordan back for Secret Wars, with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire as variants of Spider-Man, Famke Janssen back as the X-Men’s Jean Grey, Wesley Snipes as Blade, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, and just about everyone that Marvel Studios can get to sign a contract. We do not know whether this means Michael B Jordan will be back for a quick cameo as in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever or a more pivotal role, but we’re definitely excited either way.
