Mia Goth Is Joining The MCU In Blade
Mia Goth will join Mahershala Ali in the Marvel Blade reboot.
Mia Goth’s career took off in 2022 as she starred in two A24 films, X and Pearl, and kicked off 2023 with Brandon Cronenberg’s Infinity Pool. It looks like the talented actress is going to continue her rise to fame as Deadline reveals she will be in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s reboot of Blade. Mia Goth will perform alongside the Golden Globe Award winner, Mahershala Ali, in the lead role of Blade.
There is much speculation around the reboot, with the current plot being kept tightly under wraps after the initial plot was leaked. The first plot was rumored to have a woman replace the male role of Blade, and it seemed to be a clear ripoff of Kate Beckinsale’s Underworld film. Now, we can only speculate on what the plot will entail and how Mia Goth will be involved.
The character of Blade was first introduced in 1973 in the Marvel comic book Tomb of Dracula No. 10. The Daywalker (human-vampire hybrid) started out as a supporting character before breaking out onto the big screen with three films from New Line Cinema, Blade (1998), Blade II (2002), and Blade: Trinity (2004). Wesley Snipes played the leading role, with support from many actors, including Kris Kristofferson, Stephen Dorff, and Ryan Reynolds.
With Marvel taking back the film franchise, we hope to see the story follow the long and enthralling storyline of the comic books written by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. The comic book series has been going strong for 50 years and mostly follows Blade as he hunts down and kills vampires, using his superhuman strength and ability to regenerate to his advantage. Recently it was revealed that Blade had a daughter, Brielle, aka Bloodline, with his love interest Safron Caulder, either of which could be potential roles for Mia Goth.
The new film will be directed by French film director Yann Demange, winner of the British Independent Film Award for Best Director. In his short career, he has mostly only directed and produced TV shows, such as Top Boy and Lovecraft Country, so this MCU film will put his talent to the test. Luckily, Yann Demange will have the support of scriptwriter Michael Starrbury and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige as the producer.
Mia Goth is now part of the ever-growing list of Hollywood stars recently joining the MCU, including Emilia Clarke, Will Poulter, Olivia Colman, and Bill Murray. The rising star began her career in 2013 when she was cast in Nymphomaniac: Vol. II alongside her now husband, Shia Labeouf. She then went on to land roles in bigger films like Everest, A Cure for Wellness, and Emma., and will soon reprise her recent breakout role with the X sequel, MaXXXine.
The reboot of Blade is set to release on September 6, 2024, and we can hopefully expect to see Game of Thrones star Kit Harington and the legendary Delroy Lindo in the cast. Audiences may also see a new villain: Lord John Falsworth, better known as Baron Blood. The ancient vampire has a prominent role in the comic book series as a supervillain, so it would be amazing to see him and Blade fighting on the big screen.
