McDonald’s Made An Anime And It Looks Amazing
If you were trying to guess the next tie-in that McDonald’s might incorporate into their stores, you might go with a lot of the classic answers. Maybe Marvel-themed cups, or nuggets shaped like characters from the latest Disney movie. But as it turns out, the team at McDonald’s are pretty big anime fans, and they are celebrating that in March by creating a McDonald’s anime experience for customers to enjoy.
See the proof below.
McDonald’s has taken notice of the fact that their eateries are commonly featured in anime series. This dates back to the ‘80s in the anime Cat’s Eyes, which featured a spoof on McDonald’s called WcDonald’s. However, many anime have thrown in their own burger joints that look suspiciously like McDonald’s in acknowledgment of it being one of the most recognizable fast-food restaurants in the world.
Produced by the animators at Studio Pierrot, a new episode of the McDonald’s anime and a chapter of the manga are going to be released each week until March 18.
McDonald’s apparently saw all this and wondered why not create their own McDonald’s anime.
McDonald’s has kicked off that idea in many of their locations, which will now have the WcDonald’s branding on their food packaging and bags. Manga artist Acky Bright was brought on to design the new materials. They will also have a new limited-time Savory Chili sauce to enjoy, so you can taste something special to mark the occasion.
But that is far from the end of it, and there legitimately is a McDonald’s anime being rolled out.
Produced by the animators at Studio Pierrot, famous for animes like Tokyo Ghoul, a new episode of the McDonald’s anime and a chapter of the manga are going to be released each week until March 18. The first episode and chapter, “The Race to WcDonald’s,” was released on February 26. Each release focuses on different characters dealing with some classic anime tropes and a story about WcDonald’s food and recipes.
And the McDonald’s anime experience does not stop there either. Exclusively on the OpenTable app, patrons will be able to enjoy the WcDonald’s Immersive Dining Experience on March 9 and March 10 only. McDonald’s promises that this will be a multi-sensory blend of entertainment and food.

This will include a menu inspired by the WcDonald’s anime and manga, as well as setting the scene through effects like “360 projection mapping and immersive tabletop projections”. Those in and around the Los Angeles area can check it out.
It is not often that fast food places put on such elaborate events as this, and the McDonald’s anime might very well be the first time a restaurant has put out its very own show. It is absolutely a creative and fun idea, as well as a really passionate way to acknowledge the presence the franchise has established in so many anime series.
