Mayim Bialik Responds To Jeopardy! Win After Being Ousted From Show
Although she may no longer be involved with the show, Mayim Bialik is still celebrating her time on Jeopardy! In an Instagram post, the ex-host and television star shared her thrill that the long-running trivia show took home the Emmy for Outstanding Game Show during the Primetime Emmy celebrations. She also gave a shout-out to Keke Palmer for landing the award for Outstanding Host for a Game Show, an honor that Bialik revealed hadn’t gone to a woman in nearly two decades.
Mayim Bialik Praises Jeopardy For Its Emmy Win
Along with Keke Palmer, who was nominated for her work behind NBC’s game show, Password, both Mayim Bialik and Ken Jennings of Jeopardy! were listed among the category’s nominees. Also included was Family Feud’s Steve Harvey and Wheel of Fortune’s Pat Sajak. Of all the titles included for best host, the theme focused heavily on returning competitors who have had a long history of nominations for their work, with Palmer’s win being all that more exciting because of it.
Mayim Bialik’s Jeopardy Tenure
As for Mayim Bialik, The Big Bang Theory and Blossom star first stepped behind the host’s podium of Jeopardy! back in 2021 alongside co-host Ken Jennings. After a lengthy search following the death of longtime host Alex Trebek, Jennings and Bialik were chosen to be the show’s leaders, alternating their appearances. Over the last two and a half years since Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialik have shared hosting duties, fans have drawn a line in the sand, supporting one or the other personality. Both have had their fair share of snafus and Tweetable moments, with reused questions and wrong answers shaking up the Jeopardy! community. But, recently things took a more permanent shift, with Bialik being ousted from her role altogether.
Mayim BIalik’s Troubled History With The Show
The trouble between Mayim Bialik and Jeopardy! started nearly a full year ago when she stepped aside from her hosting duties to stand strong with the writers’ strike. Following her departure, Ken Jennings returned to the show earlier than expected as he was on a brief hiatus. As both the writers’ and actors’ strike raged on, it was revealed that Jennings would finish out the show’s 39th season with Bialik still picketing alongside her fellow performers.
Jeopardy Annonced Her Departure
Sadly, for those who have aligned themselves with Mayim Bialik’s question-asking skills on Jeopardy!, it was announced at the tail end of 2023 that she wouldn’t be returning to the show at all, with Ken Jennings becoming the permanently single host of the program. Sharing her side of the story with her Instagram goodbye, Bialik’s mid-December post stated that Sony, the studio behind the fan-favorite game show, had essentially cut her contract, firing her from the syndicated series.
No Hard Feelings
Though she may have parted ways with the title in an unexpected and less-than-savory way, Mayim Bialik remained nothing but grateful and cordial to the folks behind Jeopardy! including the fans that tuned in night after night. In her statement, she mentioned how honored she was to have earned a hosting nomination for the Primetime Emmys and thanked everyone involved during her tenure.As for Mayim Bialik’s life beyond Jeopardy!, the performer and host doesn’t have any projects on the horizon that we know of quite yet. 2023 was an especially hard year for her as Fox also canceled her sitcom, Call Me Kat.
