Matt Smith Starring In Adaptation Of Utterly Insane Dark Novel From Iconic Musician
After hitting us with the excitement of knowing that House of the Dragon would be returning in 2024, Matt Smith fans are getting a double dose of euphoria as The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the star has just signed on to his next project. Along with starring, Matt Smith will also executive produce the limited series adaptation of Nick Cave’s novel, The Death of Bunny Munro. The dark comedy will see Matt Smith in the leading role of the Sky Studios and Clerkenwell Films production, which will be going through NBCUniversal for distribution in the U.S.
Matt Smith Cast As Bunny Munro
In the series, Matt Smith will star as the titular character, Bunny Munro. A ladies man, Bunny Munro works as a door-to-door salesman pushing off beauty supplies with his good looks and charm. When Bunny’s wife, Libby, dies by suicide, his life is imploded and completely turned inside out as he has no idea how to carry on.
Remaining Cast Still Unknown
With his 9-year-old son, Bunny Junior, by his side, Bunny takes off on a raucous road trip across Southern England where the duo bond over their shared grief and grow their relationship together. Of course, Bunny being Bunny, he can’t help but get over his sadness by welcoming the gaze of any woman he comes across while Bunny Junior talks to his mother’s ghost. As of right now, Matt Smith is the only member of the cast to be revealed with the role of Bunny Junior still up in the air.
Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds
The Death of Bunny Munro is being adapted for series form by Pete Jackson (Somewhere Boy) and directed by Isabella Eklöf (Industry, Holiday). Along with being the book’s original author, Cave will also executive produce alongside Matt Smith. A creative genius, Cave has been the legendary voice of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds for decades, with the band’s music heard in productions including the Scream franchise, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
Matt Smith In House Of The Dragon
As for Matt Smith, the actor, who previously appeared in such productions as The Crown, Doctor Who, and Mobius, has recently gained a new dedicated following for his role in HBO’s House of the Dragon. The series saw its premiere season reach massive viewership numbers last year, with many fans eagerly awaiting the next installment in the book-turned-series. While many other productions were shut down for several months due to the writers’ and actors’ strike, because the stars of House of the Dragon were part of a separate union, work on the series continued.
House Of The Dragon Season 2
Earlier this month, it was announced that the wait is almost up as the second season will fly onto screens in the summer. The tail end of the premiere season saw the Targaryens split down the middle with Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) fleeing with her family to Dragonstone. There, she began to rebuild with her uncle-husband, Daemon (Matt Smith) before some devastating news ended the season on a cliffhanger, foreshadowing a rain of fire and blood.
As of right now, The Death of Bunny Munro hasn’t set a release date but stay tuned for casting information and more as it becomes available.
