Matt Damon Admits He Has A Perfect Celebrity Lookalike
Lookalikes are quite common among celebrities; take Zooey Deschanel and Katy Perry or Emma Watson and Kiernan Shipka as an example. Oh, and let’s not forget Jennifer Connelly and Demi Moore or Chelsea Handler and Elizabeth Banks. There are more than two dozen examples of celebrity lookalikes, and even Matt Damon sees the resemblance between himself and Jesse Plemons.
The Doppelganging Duo
Though some may not see the resemblance between the two, the Instigators actor states the Plemons looked more like him than he did when he was little. Matt Damon was asked whether he agrees with the internet’s declaration that Jesse Plemons is his celebrity doppelganger, to which the star responded positively, pointing out that Jesse Plemons was actually cast as the younger version of John Grady Cole, Damon’s character in 2000’s All the Pretty Horses. Unfortunately, the scene featuring Plemons didn’t make the final cut.
“I couldn’t believe it. He looked more like me than I did when I was little,” Damon admitted.
Ben Affleck Agrees That The Resemblance Is Uncanny
While on the set of All the Pretty Horses, Matt Damon was approached by five different people who expressed their disbelief about how much Jesse Plemons looked like the actor, and even Damon admitted to being in disbelief himself. Actor Ben Affleck, who had known Matt Damon since childhood (they’re actually childhood friends), even pointed out that the Plemons had mannerisms similar to Damon’s and even sounded like him.
Matt Damon, who acknowledged Affleck’s “assessment,” added that he’s actually proud of the comparison.
Jesse Plemons Is Flattered By The Comparison
Jesse Plemons, on the other hand, recently shared with Jimmy Kimmel that he doesn’t see the resemblance between him and Matt Damon, though he later admitted to—in a separate interview—being flattered by the comparison.
Matt and Jesse worked in Billy Bob Thornton’s All the Pretty Horses, a 2000 American Western film based on Cormac McCarthy’s novel of the same name, starring Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz. The movie centers on a young Texan cowboy falling in love with a Mexican ranch owner’s daughter, which leads him into all sorts of trouble.
Plemons Even Portrayed A Young Matt Damon Once
Jesse Plemons was cast as the younger version of Matt Damon’s character—since Damon is 17 years older than Plemons—but the scene was eventually cut from the movie due to undisclosed reasons. The critical response to All the Pretty Horses was generally negative, with many criticizing the film as a rather poor adaptation of the original work and for being dramatically inert, with scenes that feel rushed and done in shorthand, with a complete lack of chemistry between Matt Damon and Penelope Cruz.
Maybe One Day They’ll Work Together Again
Following all the interviews and public talk about their resemblance, Matt Damon stated that he would gladly work with Jesse Plemons again, calling the Kinds of Kindness star a great actor.
Whether that comes to fruition remains to be seen; in the meantime, those interested in Matt Damon’s work should dedicate 126 minutes of their time to watching 1997’s Good Will Hunting while we collectively wait for Matt Damon and Ben Affleck’s next project, The Instigators, an upcoming heist comedy scheduled to debut on Apple TV+ on August 9, following its theatrical run.
