Marvel’s Most Terrifying Villain Is Coming Back? Actor Spills The Beans
Although Marvel has yet to confirm, Elizabeth Olsen said she would like to return to the MCU and play the Scarlet Witch again.
Is it possible that the Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda, is coming back to the MCU? According to a recent interview at South by Southwest 2023 (that was supposed to be about her new role in Love & Death on HBO Max), Marvel may still be keeping its connection with Elizabeth Olsen intact. When asked if we can expect to see more Scarlet Witch, the actress enthusiastically responded: “Oh, yeah!”
Let’s not get too hasty now, though. If you watch the full (super short) clip, you will see that when the interviewer asked her, “‘Oh yeah, for sure?” she then cast a bit of doubt on her own answer by saying: “I mean, I don’t know, but yeah!” So… Marvel, can you back Elizabeth Olsen up on this?
While this is far from a definitive statement, it does appear that there could be something to the rumors that we haven’t seen the last of Marvel’s Scarlet Witch as played by Elizabeth Olsen. Otherwise, why would she have seemed so sure with her first answer?
Fans in the comments section think she is “manifesting,” meaning that she is saying something in the hopes it will happen or that she is pulling a Tom Holland and accidentally spoiling things. They claim that they “know” now that Marvel must be bringing Elizabeth Olsen back based on her answer.
It may be in Marvel’s best interest to bring Elizabeth Olsen back. While the WandaVision actress said then that she didn’t know if she would be returning, she said she thought she “should” come back and joked that “I want fans to be so aggressive and terrify [Marvel] into doing it or something.”
At that moment in time, Marvel hadn’t told Elizabeth Olsen anything about the ultimate fate of her character after the end of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. She was just as in the dark as her fans, although she quickly pointed out that she would “love” to return to the role if possible.
However, the actress has also pointed out in the past that she doesn’t want Marvel and Elizabeth Olsen always to be connected names. As much as she enjoys playing Wanda, her Marvel contract eventually led to her feeling “frustrated,” as it kept her from being able to accept other types of roles. The more of these other roles she was forced to turn down, the less often they became offered to her, to the extent that she was losing out on important roles.
So, while every Marvel fan would like to see Elizabeth Olsen return as Wanda someday, we should all keep in mind that the actress may also want to take on some other roles if she gets the chance. Like her role in Love & Death, for example, where she plays axe murderer Candy Montgomery.
At the end of the day, the most important thing isn’t whether or not Marvel is bringing back Elizabeth Olsen to play Scarlet Witch: it is if Elizabeth Olsen would still be happy to come back and play that part and if it would still give her time to play other roles she is passionate about, like lady axe murderers.
