Marvel Star Reveals Incredibly Painful Preparation For Role
A Marvel star recently opened up about the incredibly painful preparation he had to endure for his next film, and apparently it was tougher than Marvel's training.

Simu Liu is the star of Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. But now the Marvel star is taking his talents to another film that fans might not have seen coming. Liu will be taking on the role of an alternate version of the Ken doll for the upcoming Barbie film. He will star alongside Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, who respectfully play Ken and Barbie. However, though the man has likely received tons of training during Shang Chi and is in great shape, he had to do something excruciating to prepare for Barbie. For the role, the actor had to be waxed, to give off the appearance of being a doll.
According to Simu Liu, “Waxing has been an education, to say the least,” he added “It was one of the most painful experiences of my life. I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this on a monthly basis.” We are not sure if Ryan Gosling had to go through the same level of pain to appear as the original Ken doll, but Liu sure had to go through his body getting waxed for this part. While this may all sound a bit odd, Liu’s manager also explained the excitement he had about the script for this film. He told Liu he would base his whole career on the film. That is a huge claim. Liu was also in one of the biggest Marvel movies ever made, so this Barbie script had better be good.
Most of the story for this new Barbie film has been kept under wraps, but Simu Liu has let certain things slip. One is that he is going to be an alternate version of the Ken doll. Also, he is apparently going to be dancing in the film. That is essentially how he got the part. He danced for director Greta Gerwig and was given the part. He also claims that this film is not a musical, but it is wild in nature, which might explain the dancing. Liu might have had to dance to get his Marvel role, or at least show off his martial arts moves.
All that is known about Barbie is that Margot Robbie plays a Barbie doll who escapes her imaginary life and becomes real but then finds out that reality is overwhelming. Gosling and Liu play different versions of the Ken doll. Will Ferrell is taking on the CEO of a toy company that is meant to mimic Mattell, who is also producing the film. There is also a huge cast added that includes Issa Rae, Kate McKinnon, Michael Cera, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Emerald Fennell, Ncuti Gatwa, Emma Mackey, and Connor Swindells. That is a massive ensemble cast for a film about a doll. Apparently, this film was good enough to lure over a Marvel star. Well, a DC star too.
Barbie is set for a July 21, 2023, premiere date. Nothing is known about the film apart from the few premise details. Though we are excited to see Simu Liu take on this random role, we hope he returns to Marvel soon too. Shang Chi needs a sequel next.
