Marvel Star Is Dr. Frankenstein In Supernatural Horror Comedy First Look
Focus Features has released a teaser for the upcoming horror romance Lisa Frankenstein. The movie stars Kathryn Newton of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania fame alongside Riverdale’s Cole Sprouse. The rest of the cast includes Liza Soberano, Joe Chrest, Jenna Davis, Henry Eikenberry, Carla Gugino, and Joey Harris.
These star-crossed lovers embark on a gruesome journey in pursuit of love, happiness, and some missing body parts.
The 20-second clip sees a revived corpse emerging from a tanning bed alongside a young woman. Lisa Frankenstein revolves around an unpopular high school student who develops feelings for a handsome Victorian corpse after he comes back to life under horrific circumstances. These star-crossed lovers embark on a gruesome journey in pursuit of love, happiness, and some missing body parts.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Lisa Frankenstein is produced by Mason Novick and Diablo Cody, known for their previous collaborations on projects such as Tully, Young Adult, Jennifer’s Body, and Juno. Jeffrey Lampert serves as the executive producer. The unconventional love story will hit theaters worldwide on February 9, 2024, in time for Valentine’s Day.
Diablo Cody penned the script for Lisa Frankenstein and shared her production plans with Novick in June 2022. Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams, will direct the movie in her feature-length debut. She is known for her work as a writer, director, and star of the 2018 short film Shrimp, which revolved around dominatrixes in a BDSM establishment in Los Angeles.
Lisa Frankenstein star Kathryn Newton gained widespread recognition for her breakthrough role in HBO’s Big Little Lies. She also starred alongside Vince Vaughn in the Universal and Blumhouse horror-comedy film Freaky in 2020. The actress became a household name after landing the role of Cassie Lang in Marvel Studios’ Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania in 2023.
Zelda Williams, the daughter of the late Robin Williams, will direct the movie in her feature-length debut.
The role of Cassie Lang was previously played by Emma Fuhrmann, who depicted a teenage version of the character in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame. Abby Ryder Fortson previously portrayed an even younger version of Scott Lang’s daughter in 2015’s Ant-Man and 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. It’s unclear when or if the Lisa Frankenstein actress, Newton, will reprise her role in the MCU.
Newton’s Lisa Frankenstein co-star, Cole Sprouse, has been acting since 1993. Sprouse began his career as a child actor with appearances in several popular television series such as Friends and That ’70s Show. Together with his twin brother Dylan, the actor achieved international fame when they played Cody Martin in the Disney Channel’s The Suite Life of Zack & Cody.
Cole Sprouse continued this role in the spinoff series, The Suite Life on Deck, and made guest appearances as Cody Martin in other Disney Channel productions, including Hannah Montana and Wizards of Waverly Place. In 2017, Sprouse was cast as Jughead Jones in Riverdale, a series inspired by the characters from Archie Comics.

The seventh and final season of Riverdale aired its last episode on August 23, 2023. In the lead-up to the finale, Sprouse and his co-stars said they were excited to explore new opportunities. Lisa Frankenstein represents the actor’s first major project since then.
