The Chris Pratt Garfield movie is adding a new Herculean talent- Thor: Love and Thunder’s Brett Goldstein. Goldstein, along with Bowen Yang (Saturday Night Live) has joined Pratt in the new Garfield animated movie from Sony and Alcon Productions, per Deadline. Goldstein is now the second Marvel star to join Pratt in this new take on everyone’s favorite cat.

The film is going to be the first outing for Garfield in over fifteen years and be the third adaptation of Jim Davis’s iconic comic strip of the same name which follows the (not so thrilling) adventures of lazy cat Garfield, his owner Jon, and Jon’s dog Odie. It is being produced by Alcon Entertainment and directed by Mark Dindal (The Emperor’s New Groove).

Goldstein is just the newest of MCU members joining Chris Pratt for Garfield, with Nick Fury himself, Samuel L. Jackson, also in an unknown role, bringing three total over from Marvel’s ever-expanding multiverse. Yang’s former SNL cast mate Cecile Strong is also attached to the movie, though also in an as-of-yet-unknown role. Other than Pratt as Garfield, casting has been tight-lipped about who everyone else may be playing in the film, with no other long-running characters of the comic strip confirmed to appear other than Jon and Odie.

Chris Pratt’s Garfield is being co-written by Paul Kaplan, Mark Torgove, and Davis Reynolds of Finding Nemo fame. DNEG Animation will be leading the animation and producing on the film, with Alcon producing alongside John Cohen (Despicable Me). Sony has set the release date for the film as May 24, 2024, just in time for an early Summer blockbuster.

Goldstein, best known for his role on the Apple TV+ smash hit Ted Lasso, has won two Emmys for his performance on the show. He is currently co-creating and executive producing the upcoming comedy Shrinking for Apple TV+, which was ordered straight to series. Goldstein also popped up for a brief introduction in Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder, playing the Olympian Demi-god Hercules in a post-credits tease and is now the third Marvel star to join Chris Pratt in Garfield

Bowen Yang, a breakout cast member on Saturday Night Live since he joined in 2019, will also be lending his voice to the Chris Pratt starring Garfield movie.  Yang joined the long-running variety sketch show in the 2019 season, quickly setting himself up as an energetic performer. He has also most recently been seen in the comedy Fire Island on Hulu and Bros for Universal. Currently, Yang is working on a comedy film with the Saturday Night Live cast and co-writers Please Don’t Destroy, with an unset release date.

Though fans still have another year and change to see Chris Pratt as the titular orange cat Garfield, he can be seen currently on Amazon’s The Terminal List, Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder (also starring Goldstein), and the soon-to-be Super Mario Brothers movie for Universal and Illumination as none other than the plumber himself. Before Garfield, Pratt will be suiting up as Peter Quill/Star-Lord again for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special directed by James Gunn.
