The Most-Watched Marvel Series On Disney+ Revealed
One specific show has been revealed to be the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+.
When Disney+ launched in 2019, the subscription streaming platform quickly gained steam for its one-of-a-kind content, vault of movies and television series, as well as filmed versions of hit Broadway plays. Within more than two years, Disney+ has been appreciated by fans for the availability of Marvel and Star Wars projects, particularly for the original content that seems to go hand-in-hand with upcoming movies soon to be released in theaters. One specific show, Loki, has been revealed to be the most-watched Marvel series on Disney+.
According to Deadline, while promoting the trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series She-Hulk: Attorney At Law starring Tatiana Maslany, Mark Ruffalo, and Jameela Jamil, producer Kevin Feige announced that Loki has become the most-watched Marvel-related series on the streamer. The series is apparently more popular than Disney+’s first Marvel series, WandaVision, starring Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany, as well as its second entry The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, starring Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Wyatt Russell. Feige went on to say that Loki was a risk of sorts in pre-production, but by the end of the first season, the “wild ride paid off.”
Loki premiered on Disney+ in June 2021 to a lot of fanfare from audiences and a good amount of praise from critics. Rotten Tomatoes currently shows the hit series with a 92% on its Tomatometer, as well as a 91% Average Audience Score. While not as impressive, Metacritic presently showcases a Metascore of 74 and a User Score of 7.2, which rates Loki as overall generally favorable based on reviews from critics and users alike.
Created by writer Michael Waldron of Rick and Morty and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness fame, Loki stars Tom Hiddleston as the God of Mischief, straight off of the adventures and events of Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame. As part of Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Owen Wilson and Gugu Mbatha-Raw join Hiddleston in the series in which a different version of Loki navigates through an alternate timeline. After the series debuted, Deadline reported that Loki was immediately granted a second season on Disney+, a statement that was revealed during the end credits of the first episode of season one.
The character of Loki debuted in 2011’s Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth as the titular superhero. Since then, Tom Hiddleston has played the malevolent brother of the God of Thunder in six films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as video game adaptations and the Disney+ series What If…? In a career that encompasses action adventure and dramatic roles, Hiddleston has seen his star rise in films like Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, Steven Spielberg’s War Horse, and Guillermo del Toro’s Crimson Peak. The British actor took his talents to the small screen with a performance in the limited series The Night Manager, which earned him two nominations at the 68th Primetime Emmy Awards. Hiddleston has also tried his hand at stage acting, having been nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play at the 2020 Tony Awards.
