Marvel Secretly Bringing Fan-Favorite Character Back For New Movie?
Ever since the slightly disappointing ending of the more than slightly disappointing Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Marvel fans have had a burning question: when is Scarlet Witch coming back? She died at the end of that film, and even the WandaVision sequel series Agatha All Along has shown no indication that it will be bringing this beloved Avenger back to life. Now, a Production Weekly report mentioning a Scarlet Witch movie coming out in 2026 has fans hoping that she’ll be casting her hex appeal on the big screen once more.
Scarlet Witch Movie Being Worked On By The Agatha All Along Team?
As of this writing, Marvel hasn’t released any kind of official news about a Scarlet Witch movie, and everything we know comes from this report. If you’re not familiar with Production Weekly, they are a generally reliable source of (what else?) film production news, and they are claiming that this new movie will be written by Agatha All Along scribes Jac Schaeffer and Megan McDonnell. However, some fans are holding off on celebrating until (or if) Marvel releases any kind of official news.
Don’t Get Your Hopes Up
The primary reason for this hesitation is that Production Weekly often draws attention to intended productions that suddenly get dropped when the studio decides to go in another direction. Even if this report is completely accurate at the time it is published, it doesn’t mean that Disney won’t surprise us by dropping the Scarlet Witch movie plans in favor of something else.
In the last year alone, we’ve watched the studio completely change their newest Big Bad (from Kang to Doctor Doom) and shuffle projects around in the wake of everything from production drama to audiences’ collective superhero fatigue.
A Chance For Redemption
A well-written Scarlet Witch movie is certainly something Marvel fans have been craving. The character was written with great nuance and multiple dimensions in WandaVision, but in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, she became just another one-note supervillain. If we could get a big-screen solo film for the character with the kind of writing that made WandaVision such a smash hit, Disney could definitely fill theaters, no magic required.
Elizabeth Olsen Is Willing To Return
Incidentally, nobody is ready for a well-written Scarlet Witch movie or TV show more than Elizabeth Olsen, the actor behind the character. She recently discussed her desire to reprise the character so long as the writers have something interesting for her to do. She also admitted that Marvel once seemingly didn’t know what to do with her, so plans for a solo film centered on her character hopefully imply that the writers have a fresh take on this classic character.
Let’s Hope Disney Doesn’t Screw This Up
Right now, Disney producing a Scarlet Witch movie is just a rumor, albeit one being spread by a very reliable source. We can’t wait to discover whether that rumor is true and, if so, where Marvel is going to take a character that has gone from bad to good and back again. It may be genuinely difficult to come up with a new story and direction for Scarlet Witch, but if done right, the results will be nothing short of magical.
