Marvel Replacing Classic Avengers Actors? New Info Points To Total Recast
Marvel reached the pinnacle of its popularity with the massive cinematic event Avengers: Endgame, which brought many satisfying character arcs for some of our favorite characters to a close.
Different Actors In Marvel Roles?
The MCU has gradually been building up a new team of heroes to take on Kang in The Kang Dynasty.
Still, it’s safe to say that those original characters like Robert Downey Jr’s Tony Stark, Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, and Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff have been missed.
However, a recent rumor suggests that fans could have the best of both worlds, with both the new characters getting their time to shine and a return of the old characters, albeit played by different actors (via Screen Geek).
Solving Marvel’s Problems?
In a social media thread, a Marvel fan directed a question to industry insider @MyTimetoShineH about the potential of Avengers: Secret Wars soft rebooting the MCU and bringing in new actors to play Tony, Steve, and Natasha.
MyTimetoShineH replied: “Yes to all of it.”
While these rumors should certainly be taken with a hefty grain of salt, it would be a good way for the MCU to generate some hype while also not derailing its current plans with the characters it has been building up since Endgame.
Potentially, it could solve the MCU’s recent box office woes and help with the recent bout of superhero fatigue that seems to be plaguing audiencegoers.
Gradually Replacing Lineup
Marvel has gradually been replacing the OG Avengers lineup with characters like Riri Williams, aka Ironheart, to replace Tony Stark, Sam Wilson’s Captain America to replace Steve Rogers, and Yelena Belova as the new Black Widow.
But there’s still interesting potential to have these characters in the MCU while also having Tony Stark, Steve Rogers, and Natasha Romanoff.
Of course, those characters had satisfying endings to their stories (outside of Natasha, who got the short end of the stick), so it would make sense if Secret Wars brought in alternative versions of the characters that could follow new, interesting character arcs.
Tricky To Pull Off
Of course, to pull this off, Marvel would have to recast these characters perfectly so that it didn’t just seem like a desperate ploy to get people back to see the movies.
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson were all perfect for their roles, so it would be a tricky move to pull off.
Still, it would undoubtedly get people excited about Avengers: Secret Wars and the future of the MCU if these rumors turned out to be true.
Soft Reboot Coming?
A big reason for this is that Marvel didn’t have the rights to make X-Men and Fantastic Four movies while the OG Avengers were going strong.
Comic fans would love to see characters like Tony Stark and Reed Richards interact, but it just wasn’t possible before now. With those characters officially out of the picture, it would never be a possibility unless the MCU did the rumored soft reboot and brought these characters back into the fold.
Wait And See
The truth is, there is plenty of precedence in Marvel comics for a soft reboot to occur. While the recasting of the Avengers might take some getting used to, it certainly seems like it would be worth it in the long run. For now, we’ll just have to wait and see what the MCU decides to do.
