Marvel Officially Has A New Falcon
Danny Ramirez's Joaquin Torres will officially become the new Marvel Falcon.
With Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson officially taking on the mantle of Captain America, it has now been confirmed that a new Falcon will emerge in the MCU for Captain America 4. It has been confirmed that Danny Ramirez, who portrayed Joquin Torres in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, will be the new Falcon. This is surprising news considering that we are all used to seeing Wilson with the signature wings, but he will now be ditching the wings for the shield.
Sam Willson has been the Marvel Falcon since Captain America: The Winter Soldier, so it is some great writing that his character and story have now come full circle for Captain America: New World Order. Wilson has evolved into Captain America, well, he is evolving into the role. We did get to see the racial connotations added to the character during The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, so we know that more of the internal struggle to take on that mantle will be on display for Captain America 4.
Director of Captain America 4, Julius Onah spoke about Torres being the new Marvel Falcon. According to Onah, “I’m thrilled, you know, Danny Ramirez, who’s playing Falcon, he and I go back a bit, so and Anthony’s somebody I’ve been a huge, huge fan of as well. So getting to work with them, first of all, director to actor, and then being able to shape these characters, and take the relationship forward is incredible.”
The most exciting aspect of this is that Joaquin Torres is going to be the new Marvel Falcon, which means we are going to be seeing another Latino superhero make their debut in the MCU. Even more exciting is how that new Falcon is going to look. Sam Wilson is the most well-known Falcon from the comics, but there was a storyline used back in 2015 where Joquin Torres was taken in by Wilson and transformed into the new Falcon.
We are not entirely sure if the comic-accurate version of Joaquin Torres as the Marvel Falcon will be used though. The original version of the Joaquin Torres Falcon is that he becomes a human/falcon hybrid. That happens based on experimentation that is used when Redwing’s (Wilson’s sidekick falcon) DNA is spliced with Torres’s, and it is discovered that Redwing possesses a level of vampiric traits that turn Torres into a falcon humanoid. We don’t necessarily think that is where the MCU is going to take Torres, but crazier things have happened.
Redwing is now a drone in Marvel and not a live falcon that has vampiric qualities. Joaquin Torres was able to have a telepathic link to both Sam Wilson and Redwing based on the DNA experiment he was a part of, but that relationship can still happen through the Stark and Wakandan technology that is used in the MCU. Sure, the telepathic link will boil down to being able to talk to one another any time through the usage of comms in his suit and Redwing, but the basic principles of the character will still be there.
With Sam Wilson taking on the role of Captain America solely and Joquin Torres now stepping in as the Marvel Falcon, it brings in a whole new meaning to Captain America: New World Order. Also, we get to see Tim Blake Nelson return as the Leader, which is basically Marvel’s version of Sinestro. We know that similarities are getting past anyone.
