Captain America Is Missing From Marvel And Fans Are Confused
While he may have been made Captain America years ago at the very end of 2019’s top-grossing MCU flick, Avengers: Endgame, the studio is treating Sam Wilson as anything but. Played by Anthony Mackie, the character who was previously known as Falcon, was handed the iconic shield after Chris Evans’s Steve Rogers stepped down from his duties. Since then, though, mum’s been the word on what Captain America has been up to with many fans wondering when he’ll resurface.
While many of these scripts have mentioned the overarching group of Earth’s mightiest heroes aka The Avengers, there’s been no news as to what Wilson has been up to since taking on the job.
Although we know that Captain America: Brave New World, the fourth installment in Cap’s solo franchise, will (as of right now) arrive in 2024, no other Marvel projects have so much as brought up his name. It’s been two years since we last saw Sam Wilson’s Captain America at the tail end of the Disney+ and Marvel Studios series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
The season saw Wilson, along with Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier take on a new threat in a group who believed the world was better for the Blip.
Throughout the series, audiences watched as Wilson struggled with the idea of becoming Captain America but by the finale, he proudly tosses on his very American uniform and takes on the task at hand. However, since this proud and goosebump-inducing moment, audiences haven’t heard anything about the newly appointed Cap.
Through titles including Loki, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Eternals, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and more, Captain America’s name hasn’t even been whispered in passing. While many of these scripts have mentioned the overarching group of Earth’s mightiest heroes aka The Avengers, there’s been no news as to what Wilson has been up to since taking on the job.

If things keep going this way, there’s a good chance that Captain America won’t be heard from or of again until the release of Brave New World. In the time between now and then, titles including Loki Season 2, the Marvels, Echo, Daredevil: Born Again, and possibly Ironheart and Agatha: Coven of Chaos could make their way onto screens. Of course, with the ongoing WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, it’s really anyone’s guess as to what will be pushed back and what will stay on schedule.
Knowing how Marvel has handled upcoming productions in the past, it would be an odd move on the studios’ behalf to not give Captain America’s name any screen time in either word or physical appearance. Many upcoming projects have received nods in other movies or shows, better setting them up for success upon release.
When Does Captain America 4 Release?
With so many new characters being introduced in Phase 5 and beyond, the lack of Captain America could just shake down to be an oversaturation issue. The studio was recently called out by Disney CEO Bob Iger for having a quantity vs. quality issue and the plight of Sam Wilson’s Cap could be a perfect example of that. As of right now, Captain America 4 is eyeing a theatrical release in 2024.
