Marvel Confirms Ant-Man 3’s Wildest Theory
Marvel has confirmed that Ant-Man 3's MODOK was formerly Corey Stoll's Yellowjacket.
The trailer for Ant-Man 3 has a lot going on, to say the least. One especially noteworthy detail is the appearance of the character MODOK, who is being played by none other than Corey Stoll. Ant-Man fans will remember Stoll played the villainous Darren Cross aka Yellowjacket in the first film, and now he has apparently become the MODOK character.
While this seems like a fairly wild turn of events, director Peyton Reed went ahead and confirmed that Modok and Yellowjacket are indeed the same characters. The Direct reported on Reed’s interview with Screen Rant about Ant-Man 3 where he said they were coming up with ideas on how Kang would know about the existence of the Ant-family and said “And then it occurred to me that, y’know, what happens to Yellowjacket at the end of the first ‘Ant-Man.’ It’s like [indistinct sucking sound].”
It sounds like MODOK will actually play a semi-important part in Ant-Man 3, as Kang seems to have obtained some information from him. In other words, these two bad guys are working together. How Yellowjacket actually became MODOK will undoubtedly be a different story, but we’ll just have to wait and see how that all panned out.
Ant-Man 3 is going to be a major entry in the MCU, as it kicks off the latest phase of their ongoing story. Not only will they be introducing MODOK, but this will be Kang the Conquerer’s first major appearance as a villain. In Loki, we met a variant of Kang who was decidedly more peaceful than his multiversal counterparts, but this time he’ll be in full villain mode.
Jonathan Majors will be reprising his role as Kang for Ant-Man 3 and fans can’t wait to see how this film kicks off his villainous legacy in the MCU. You have to imagine that Kang is going to establish himself as a major threat since we have Avengers: The Kang Dynasty coming out in 2025. If Kang is powerful enough to be a threat to the entirety of the Avengers team, it definitely spells bad news for the Ant family.
Ant-Man 3 also sees Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michael Douglas, and Michelle Pfeiffer reprising their roles. Kathryn Newton will be playing the role of Cassie Lang, who seems like she’ll be getting some powers of her own in this one. This would also help set up Cassie as a potential member of the long-rumored Young Avengers movie.
In short, it definitely seems like Ant-Man 3 is going to be one of the most significant entries to the MCU yet. If you’re hyped to see it, you don’t have too long to wait. The film is set to hit theaters on February 17.
While we wait for Ant-Man 3 to come out, you could always catch up on some of the other big shows and films in the MCU. Most recently, Disney+ added Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on their streaming platforms, so you can now watch it from home. You can also check out the recent Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special and She-Hulk series if you’re not caught up on those yet.
