Marvel fans were thrilled when they saw Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and Charlie Cox’s Daredevil make their MCU debut, but pretty much all of the other great Netflix Marvel characters have been left in the cold. Fans pushed hard enough and got their wish with Daredevil and Kingpin, so it seems likely that it’s only a matter of time before we get another hero. And the first one should be Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones.

Jessica Jones Is One Of The Best Marvel Shows

While it’s safe to say that Daredevil was the most consistent out of the Netflix Marvel shows, Jessica Jones Season 1 remains a high watermark for Marvel TV shows in general. The thrilling and creepy performance of David Tennant as Kilgrave, aka the Purple Man, was only matched by Ritter’s brilliant tenacity as the titular superpowered private investigator. While the Netflix Marvel shows were no stranger to dark themes, Jessica Jones’ tale of someone dealing with the PTSD of abuse while actively having their abuser back in their life was truly haunting and refreshingly honest television.

A Mature Story In The MCU

This kind of storytelling could be the shot in the arm the MCU needs. And while retreading old ground might not seem interesting, it’s safe to say that Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones and David Tennant back as Kilgrave is something everyone would be interested in. It would also perfectly play into the themes that Jones has delved into previously, showing that PTSD is something that can rear its head even if you’ve found ways to cope.

Bring Back David Tennant’s Creepy Villain

A comic called Return of the Purple Man was released coincidentally at the same time as the Netflix series on which a new Jessica Jones series could be based. Since the Netflix shows are seemingly as canon as the MCU decides they are, they could keep the events of Jessica Jones Season 1 and delete the ending where Kilgrave dies. This would be the perfect way for both characters to be introduced to the MCU.

Re-Build The Defenders Around Jessica Jones

However, even if you want to leave Purple Man out of the equation, it’s still well worth bringing Krysten Ritter back as Jessica Jones. Her performance was instantly iconic, and Jones’ attitude would be the perfect addition to the current Marvel TV lineup. Plus, it seems inevitable that Marvel will bring a Defenders series to Disney+ at some point, so why not start with Jones?

Bring Marvel’s Best Comic Marriage To The MCU

Introducing Jessica Jones is also an easy way to introduce Luke Cage, who also deserves a spot on Disney+. The two had a relationship in the TV show (which is even more fleshed out in the comics), so adding one hero leads to the other. Because really, who doesn’t want to see Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage running around the MCU streets of New York together?

Krysten Ritter Said She’d Come Back

The fact is, Krysten Ritter has said she would be down to return as Jessica Jones if the MCU called. We hope she’ll make a surprise appearance in Daredevil: Born Again. But if not, Marvel needs to make that call.
