Marvel’s Armor Wars In Trouble?
A new report suggests there's a lot of confusion about the production start date for Marvel's Armor Wars.
There is some seemingly conflicting information going around about Marvel’s Armor Wars. First, it was going to be a Disney+ series, then it was changed into a full-length film. Now, according to The Direct, sources like Production List are saying that it is set to begin production on April 3, 2023, while other sources say the opposite.
According to one of The Direct’s reputable sources, Lizzie Hill, “the rumored April start for Armor Wars seems to be incorrect.” She goes on to say that “I’ll add I just heard from a reliable source that ‘end of the year’ is more likely.”
As for why the start date of April 3 seems so unrealistic, one must consider that normally Marvel projects announce which director is attached to the project nearly a year before production commences. Armor Wars has yet to make such an announcement. There have also been no announcements made about the cast of the film, aside from Don Cheadle, who will reportedly reprise his role as War Machine from the Iron Man films.
Other projects, such as Captain America: New World Order, and Thunderbolts, both of which are set to begin production this summer, have had several announcements made about casting. For this reason, insider Charles Murphy says “It is highly unlikely that there’s any truth to the reports of Armor Wars shooting in April.”
Murphy has a theory. According to the same Production List website, the Marvel superhero series Wonder Man (no relation to DC’s Wonder Woman) is filming from April through August – the same dates that Armor Wars is supposedly shooting. It is possible that whoever was entering the data into the list made a mistake, and input the wrong dates.
Production List, however, has proven itself to be a trustworthy site in the past. It was right about the filming dates for projects like Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Season 2 of Loki, and even DC’s Joker: Folie A Deux, the latter of which was reported by other sites as starting production in early 2023, when it really started on November 5, 2022 (a date correctly announced by Production List).
Does all this confusion mean that Armor Wars is in trouble? It’s too soon to say. While many fans and industry insiders point out that there is a lot to be done when shifting a series into a film, which could hold up production, we don’t have any other information to go on when deciding whether to trust Production List or not.
We just have to wait and see if there are more updates in the coming days.
For the moment, all we really know for sure about Armor Wars is that it dives into the consequences that would occur if Tony Stark’s tech fell into the wrong hands, and that it most likely stars Don Cheadle.
The Direct’s sources (and a lot of Twitter users) are on the case, however, with Murphy having already contacted Disney himself. He didn’t say what exactly they told him, but he did report that he “Checked with Disney on Armor Wars and I am making the choice to not believe the April info based on the response.”
This is not exactly a concrete confirmation, however, so everyone will just have to keep wondering until Disney makes another statement, or Production List is updated.
