Netflix has released a behind-the-scenes look at an upcoming scene from Masters of the Universe: Revelation between Mark Hamill and Lena Headey. The scene will be featured in Part Two of the popular animated series. The Mattel Television produced series offers fans a brand new take on Masters of the Universe that picked up where the original 1980s He-Man cartoon ended.
The video serves as a very cool promotional tool for the Netflix show. Mark Hamill is in his element, delivering lines as the infamous villain while getting more into character. The veteran voice actor is also seen reacting to feedback from Kevin Smith, as they attempt to perfect one of Skeletor’s big lines from the series. Lena Headey (of Game of Thrones fame) is next to Hamill as they play off each other. The clip gives fans an interesting look at the process of recording voice performances for the show.
One of the biggest reasons folks tuned in to the first five episodes was the incredible voice cast which features Mark Hamill as the main villain Skeletor and Lena Headey as his henchwoman Evil-Lyn. The duo will be returning for Masters of the Universe: Revelation – Part Two which is made up of another five episodes.
Developed and written by Kevin Smith, Masters of the Universe: Revelation also showcases the voice talents of Chris Wood as He-Man, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Tiffany Smith as Andra, and Liam Cunningham as Man-At-Arms. The Mark Hamill starrer is said to have a few more surprising guest star voices throughout its run. The second part of Masters of the Universe: Revelation is sure to draw in viewers who loved Part One. But the show wasn’t without some controversy. A lot of fans felt that the series was downplaying He-Man’s role and trying to push a different character as the protagonist. However, the trailer for Part Two featuring Mark Hamill’s Skeletor seems to indicate that is not true at all.
Kevin Smith, who is no stranger to responding to criticism, shared his thoughts on the situation with Variety. He said that Mattel (the original creators of He-Man) hired him and they certainly wouldn’t want to recreate the series without the most popular character of the franchise. He also commented on how people accused him of using the show as bait and switch to focus on Teela, instead of He-Man or Mark Hamill’s Skeletor. “I see people online go, ‘Hey man, they’re getting rid of He-Man!’ Like, you really f**king think Mattel Television, who hired me and paid me money, wants to do a f**king ‘Masters of the Universe’ show without He-Man? Grow the f*ck up, man. Like, that blew my mind, a bunch of people being like, ‘Oh, I smell it. This is a bait and switch.’”
Fan semantics aside, Masters of the Universe: Revelation – Part Two sees the war for Eternia culminate. After a cataclysmic battle between He-Man and Skeletor (Mark Hamill), Eternia is fractured and the Guardians of Grayskull are scattered. After decades of secrets tore them apart, it’s up to Teela to reunite the broken band of heroes, and solve the mystery of the missing Sword of Power in a race against time to restore Eternia and prevent the end of the universe.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation parts one and two are currently available to stream on Netflix. Tune in to follow the innovative and action-packed animated series that picks up where the iconic characters left off decades ago.
