You hit the drive-thru on the way home from work; maybe a little guilty that you’re getting fast food again rather than making something at home. Then when you pull up to the window, expecting nothing but a stranger waiting to give you your food while fielding orders from who knows how many other customers, you come face to face with Luke freaking Skywalker. Well, that’s exactly what happened to some shocked Jack in the Box customers while Mark Hamill filmed a commercial for the fast food chain.

According to a prompt before the commercial and to the anecdote Hamill shares with some of his customers, the Star Wars icon was once fired from a Jack in the Box for using a clown voice with customers rather than his own. That’s supposedly the basis for the new commercial, which has Mark Hamill taking the orders in silly cartoon voices, and then surprising the customers; most of whom recognize him right away. You can see the new commercial below.

Assuming it’s true Mark Hamill was fired from a Jack in the Box for impersonating a clown, it’s more than a little ironic considering the opportunities that would later come when he voiced perhaps the most infamous clown in all of pop culture — the Joker. After Luke Skywalker, he’s best known for voicing the Joker on and off for three decades. He started off lending his voice to the villain in Batman: The Animated Series, and his work with the character proved so impressive he’s continued to be called back to play him in other animated series, animated films, video games, and other media.

It’s a fair bet that Mark Hamill doesn’t regret choosing having fun with his voice rather than keeping his old drive-thru gig. His voice work has made him integral to more franchises than we can name here including Masters of the Universe, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Scooby-Doo, numerous Marvel animated projects, Justice League, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Garfield, DreamWorks Dragons, Transformers, and more. And the good news for Hamill just keeps coming.

By the end of this week, Netflix subscribers will be able to hear Mark Hamill in the role of Mervyn Pumpkinhead in Netflix’s live-action Sandman series. With, as the name implies, a pumpkin for a head, Hamill’s character is a supporting one who works as the janitor for Morpheus, the King of Dreams. The series is set to begin streaming on Netflix this Friday, August 5.

Interestingly, while Netflix has confirmed Hamill’s appearance in Sandman, the IMDb page for the series doesn’t list it. Of course, if he doesn’t get a credit, it won’t be the first time Mark Hamill showed up in something without being credited. Just this summer Hamill had a blink and you’ll miss it cameo in one of the biggest blockbusters of the year — Thor: Love and Thunder. The actor confirmed on Twitter that he had a a brief cameo as part of a crowd of either Asgardians or tourists visiting New Asgard. You can see the tweets referencing the cameo below.

Sandman isn’t the only popular comic book based streaming series Mark Hamill has joined. He voices the superhero costumer Art Rosebaum on Amazon’s Invincible. There’s no word yet on when we can finally expect the second season of the hit animated series to drop.
