Exclusive: Mark Hamill Is In Star Wars: Ahsoka

Mark Hamill will appear in the Disney+ series Ahsoka.

Update August 2023: Mark Hamill did not appear as Luke Skywalker in the first season of Ahsoka.

Star Wars icon Mark Hamill is going to appear in the upcoming Disney+ show Ahsoka alongside series star Rosario Dawson. According to our trusted and proven sources, Mark Hamill will be returning to the Star Wars universe for the new live-action adventures of Ahsoka Tano, presumably once again returning to the role of Jedi Master Luke Skywalker. This would make Ahsoka the third Star Wars show that he will have appeared on since the launch of the Disney+ streaming platform.

It is safe to assume that Mark Hamill will be returning to the Star Wars universe in Ahsoka as the digitally de-aged version of Luke Skywalker viewers have already seen in The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. His first appearance in the second season finale of The Mandalorian was a highly kept secret, with the appearance of post-Return of the Jedi Luke Skywalker to rescue the title character, Baby Yoda (fine, Grogu), and their companions being a shock to many viewers. As elated as fans were to see a young, non-embittered Luke Skywalker, the digital effects used to make Mark Hamill appear to be a thirty-something were widely criticized, with many viewers feeling that it had dangerously dipped into the uncanny valley.

However, by the time Mark Hamill showed up in The Book of Boba Fett alongside Ahsoka herself, the digital de-aging had significantly improved, or perhaps Star Wars fans had mellowed a bit (which is slightly less likely). Despite some fan-casting of Marvel Cinematic Universe star Sebastian Stan (soon to appear in the Thunderbolts movie) to take on the role of young Luke Skywalker, it is only right that Mark Hamill keeps appearing as the Jedi Master for as long as he feels like. Hopefully, the third appearance of Mark Hamill as young Luke Skywalker in Ahsoka will be a further step up in technology, and everyone just appreciates what an age of digital miracles we live in.

It is not currently known how many episodes Mark Hamill will appear in, or when he might actually show up to (hopefully) assist Ahsoka. In addition to Mark Hamill and Rosario Dawson, Natasha Liu Bordizzo will appear as the live-action version of Mandalorian warrior Sabine Wren and Eman Esfandi as Jedi trainee Ezra Bridger, both of whom first appeared in the animated series Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka will also feature the return of Hayden Christensen as Anakin Skywalker (and/or Darth Vader), continuing his prequel-redemption tour that he began in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.

It seems that Mark Hamill is more than up for continuing his legacy in the Star Wars universe, which means that we will hopefully get more appearances from him than Ahsoka. Given that most of the Star Wars Disney+ series have taken place in the time period between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, that is a whole lot of mostly unknown, mostly tragic history for him to fill in. We certainly cannot wait for it.
