See Margot Robbie Replaced As Harley Quinn By Ana De Armas
Fan art shows Ana de Armas taking over Harley Quinn from Margot Robbie.
Ana de Armas has already proven that she can transform from her beautiful brunette self into a bombshell hot blonde, as she did in Andrew Dominike’s Blonde, in which de Armas was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. Now, DC fans can stop wondering what she would look like as a different famous blonde woman because AI art posted to GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT’s Instagram page shows what de Armas would look like if she took over the role of Harley Quinn from Margot Robbie.
While Ana de Armas is not officially in the DC universe, fans have collectively voted to put her there. In a recent Twitter post, GIANT FREAKIN ROBOT asked our followers who they would like to see as the next Wonder Woman, and the results showed de Armas as the clear winner over Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, or any other actress. Now, it looks like the actress would be a fantastic contender as DC’s next Harley Quinn, after Margot Robbie is finished with the role, of course.
Margot Robbie has seemingly abandoned the DC Universe in pursuit of other films, but rumor has it she isn’t done playing the crazy blonde psychiatrist yet, even though The Wolf of Wallstreet actress has kept busy after wrapping on Birds of Prey and The Suicide Squad, the last films where she played Harley Quinn. In 2022, Margot Robbie starred in two major blockbusters named after cities, Babylon and Amsterdam (both of which, unfortunately, turned out to be major critical flops). And the actress currently has three projects in the works: Mattel’s Barbie with Ryan Gosling, Asteroid City with Tom Hanks, and an untitled Ocean’s Eleven project that is also rumored to be starring Gosling next to the I, Tonya actress.
Despite having a lot of projects on her plate at the moment, DC’s head honcho, James Gunn, has said that he fully expects Margot Robbie to return to the studio and play Harley Quinn again. However, Gunn did confirm Robbie’s return via Twitter (so it wasn’t official), and he did so six months ago, so anything could have changed since then. Gunn hadn’t even been officially inducted into his position at that point in time, and he has since made many changes to the DC line-up, including getting rid of several actors that fans fully expected to return (yes, we are still butthurt about the whole Henry Cavill fiasco).
So, while Margot Robbie is expected to return at some point, it seems Ana de Armas has a fair shot at playing the iconic DC role. Even if Robbie returns to the DCU, there are always other avenues for de Armas to play the character. Kaley Cuoco has been playing an animated version of the psychiatrist-turned-psycho in Harley Quinn since 2019, and Lady Gaga is currently filming for the Joker sequel, where the singer will be playing Joker’s infamous girlfriend in the new musical.
Harley Quinn is a character that has been around for more than 30 years and has been played or voiced by dozens of actresses. To put it bluntly, she is iconic. But part of what makes her iconic is how these actresses have developed new layers for the character over the years from the various ways she’s been played. While Margot Robbie has done a fantastic job portraying the character for the DCU, we have no doubt that if Ana de Armas ever decided to try Harley Quinn on for size, she would absolutely slay.
