Margot Robbie Is Ready To Lead The Next Pirates Of The Caribbean Movie In New Art
Using AI, we imagined Margot Robbie in the Pirates of the Caribbean.
Margot Robbie might be taking over the internet right now, along with Ryan Gosling, as the world prepares for the Barbie movie from director Greta Gerwig, but some fans are anxiously awaiting Robbie to star in a different franchise. A female-led Pirates of the Caribbean movie has been in development for several years, and according to Variety, the project is not dead in the water, yet. While other Pirates projects are jumping the line over Margot at Disney, Pirates producer Jerry Bruckheimer says that Robbie’s Pirates movie might still happen someday; meanwhile, we at Giant Freakin Robot are using AI to see what Robbie will look like as the next lead of the famous franchise.
In the digitally produced artwork, Margot Robbie looks like the perfect actress to take over the franchise as the next swashbuckling hero now that Johnny Depp is out of the picture, with no word on if he will return to his beloved role. After spending the last decade proving her prowess as a talented and powerful actress by excellently portraying extravagant characters like Harley Quinn in the DC movies, we know that Robbie is the perfect choice to resuscitate the dying Pirates franchise. The artwork shows us one example of what Robbie as a pirate would look like, and we are not disappointed.
In the picture, Margot Robbie is dressed in full pirate regalia with a captain’s hat placed on top of her free-flowing blonde hair. The actress holds a look of thoughtful concentration on her face as she looks away from the camera at something we can’t see. While this is just an artistic representation of what Robbie might look like as the captain of a pirate ship, we can’t help but wonder what it is she’s looking at and what the story behind her character might be.
Fans of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise have been eagerly awaiting news about the upcoming installment starring Margot Robbie, which has reportedly been in development since the summer of 2020. Jerry Bruckheimer, the producer of all five Pirates films, had reported that Disney was working on two scripts—one with Robbie and one without—both of which he was set to produce with Christina Hodson, the screenwriter of Birds of Prey set to write the Margot version of the script.
However, recent updates indicate that the project is not currently a top priority, though Bruckheimer has reported that both scripts are still in development. Margot Robbie has also shared her excitement about the idea of a female-led story in the franchise, which she considered “really cool.” However, it appears that Disney has decided not to pursue that direction, at least not at this time.
Although Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean movie is not dead, it seems to have taken a back seat for now. The previous five films in the franchise, all featuring Johnny Depp as the beloved Captain Jack Sparrow, were immensely successful, grossing over $1.5 billion domestically and a staggering $3.07 billion internationally. While the domestic performance of the most recent installment, Dead Men Tell No Tales in 2017, reached $172 million, foreign markets contributed an impressive $622 million.
Collectively, the franchise has amassed over $650 million worldwide, with Dead Man’s Chest and On Stranger Tides surpassing the billion-dollar mark.
While fans will have to wait for further updates to see if Margot Robbie’s Pirates movie will eventually set sail or if the franchise will chart a different course, at least we can use this artwork as a bit of a preview of what a Margot-led Pirates movie might look like.
