Margot Robbie Teaming With A Big Star To Make A Harley Quinn Comedy?
A new rumor has Margot Robbie co-starring in a Harley Quinn comedy.

Fans want more of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn. Fortunately, we know that The Suicide Squad is on the way for summer 2021, so we’ll be seeing her in a major release soon. There was talk of a Gotham City Sirens movie, but that feels like it’s on pause indefinitely.
The biggest hope we currently have for more Harley Quinn is in an untitled Joker/Harley project that we keep hearing rumors about. Last month, insider Daniel Richtman said that Warner Bros would be developing a Joker Vs. Harley Quinn movie for Margot Robbie during their next round of productions. This was interesting, particularly because of the “vs” in the title, which was new.
Now, insider Daniel Richtman has shared with his Patreon page that he hears the new project is still in the works. Moreover, he hears that the movie will be a comedy and that Margot Robbie will star opposite Jared Leto in his portrayal of Joker.
While Margot Robbie was immediately beloved as Harley Quinn, Jared Leto’s Joker has been more divisive. Audiences really didn’t seem to take to him in Suicide Squad. Over time, that has become more mixed. Have audiences warmed to Jared Leto’s Joker enough to see him take center stage?
Whether they like him or not, audiences love Margot Robbie in this role enough that they’ll surely check it out. The latest trailer for The Suicide Squad had a lot going on, but even in that brief glimpse, her character was hilarious. Audiences have confidence in her at this point that they would likely trust her to star in a comedy opposite anyone.
The key here is probably not whether you like Jared Leto as Joker. The key will be who is making this movie, which insider Daniel Richtman doesn’t seem to have heard yet, or at least, he hasn’t shared it. Will DC bring back any of their past creators? James Gunn is responsible for the upcoming The Suicide Squad, but he is also back to work for Marvel on Guardians of the Galaxy. David Ayer was the director of Suicide Squad. Would he perhaps want to take on a Joker Vs Harley Quinn comedy? Or would Warner Bros bring on a fresh mind for the project?
Like last month, the “versus” in the title tells us a lot about Warner Bros intention for what the new Margot Robbie movie could be about. As a comedy, the versus adds even more fun. It’s easy to imagine this as Harley Quinn directly and rambunctiously attacking Joker. We saw her doing this briefly toward the beginning of Birds of Prey. However, it may not be them directly fighting each other, like we’d expect in other “versus” superhero films. In this case, it may be the two of them going after the same thing in their own ways.
If a Joker vs. Harley Quinn movie takes place after Birds of Prey, it could continue Margot Robbie’s story of finding independence post-break-up from Joker. He could be assuming that she will be easily moldable to some scheme he has going on and attempt to use her, and instead, she could rise up on her own with an opposing agenda. This would surprise him, be a new challenge, and hopefully turn into comedic competition and, naturally, big explosions.
For right now, this is still rumor and speculation. Hopefully, official updates for more of Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn will follow soon.
