The Mandalorian Season 3 Photos Reveal A New Mandalorian
There's a new Mandalorian in season 3 of the Star Wars series, and we have photos and videos of him on set!

Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) won’t be the only Mandalorian to appear in season 3 of Disney+’s hit Star Wars series, and that’s not even counting Bo-Katan (Katee Sackhoff) and the other Mandalorians we met in the second season. New photos and video from the set of The Mandalorian season 3 show a brand new character wearing the telltale Beskar armor. No one’s sure who the character is or the identity of the actor playing them.
The images come courtesy of the Star Wars insider Bespin Bulletin, who posted them to their Instagram. Whoever is capturing The Mandalorian season 3 images is clearly some distance from the set but they manage to get shots of who appears to be a man in a Mandalorian armor costume, performing outside in the middle of blue screen. For most of the video, he’s standing toward the top of a ladder, though this isn’t evident until he descends the ladder at the end. There are also shots of what appear to be storage areas for props and scenery. You can see the photos and video below.
The man doesn’t appear to be any of the male actors we’ve seen wearing Beskar armor without accompanying helmets before The Mandalorian season 3. He doesn’t appear to be Pedro Pascal, Temuera Morrison, Timothy Olyphant, or Simon Kassianides (Axe Woves in season 2). At least one of the commenters on Bespin Bulletin’s posts suggests the man could be a stunt double, which is a possibility. While in the video he can be seen talking and pointing at something out of frame, but you can’t hear him so it isn’t clear if he’s performing dialogue or speaking to a crew member. If it is a stunt double, it’s likely not one for Mando, unless after finally revealing his face to Grogu he’s abandoned his traditions entirely.
There is a good reason to think this is, in fact, a new Mandalorian character, however. You can hardly be blamed if you don’t remember the season 2 finale potentially set up the retaking of Mandalore for The Mandalorian season 3. Viewers were dealt the twin emotional explosions of the triumphant return of Luke Skywalker and the heart-wrenching parting between Mando and Grogu in the finale, so it would be easy to forget the conflict that begins brewing just before Skywalker’s arrival. Having taken the Darksaber from Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), Din Djarin symbolically has the right to lead the Mandalorians, and if Bo-Katan wants the Darksaber she’s obliged to take it from him in battle.
Regardless of what ultimately unfolds between Din and Bo-Katan, it seems clear the latter’s quest to restore and lead Mandalore will be a much larger part of the story in The Mandalorian season 3. So, it would make perfect sense for us to be meeting more Mandalorians beyond Din, Bo-Katan, Axe Woves, and Koska Reeves (Sasha Banks). Even if the new season doesn’t actually bring us the retaking of Mandalore, Bo-Katan and her allies will likely play a larger role.
We’ll find out for sure who the mystery character is when The Mandalorian season 3 premieres some time in 2022. We don’t have a firm release date for the series’ return unfortunately. However, in the meantime its spin-off series The Book of Boba Fett premieres on Disney+ on Wednesday, December 29.
