Mad Max Prequel Finally Reveals Plot Details
The Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has been in the works for quite some time and we are finally getting some details.
The upcoming Mad Max: Fury Road prequel has a ton of hype building behind it, with fans wondering what exactly the story will entail. Initially, we knew that it would be an origin story of sorts for Imperator Furiosa and that Anya Taylor-Joy would be playing a younger version of the character played by Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road. Now, Warner Bros has finally given us a plot synopsis of Mad Max: Furiosa, giving us a lot more to go off of. Check out the official synopsis below:
As the world fell, young Furiosa is snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers and falls into the hands of a great Biker Horde led by the Warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland they come across the Citadel presided over by The Immortan Joe. While the two Tyrants war for dominance, Furiosa must survive many trials as she puts together the means to find her way home.
This is a lot of cool information about Mad Max: Furiosa and it definitely gives us some context on what we can expect. First, as many already guessed, the movie will further explore Furiosa and her relationship with Immortan Joe. It looks like we’ll also be meeting a new villain and threat in the form of Warlord Dementus, who leads a Biker Horde. Crazy cars and motor vehicles are definitely staples of the Mad Max franchise, so it’s going to be exciting to see what kind of creative bikes and cars and the high-octane vehicle action they can come up with this time. Mad Max: Fury Road set a high standard for any new Mad Max movie (or any kind of movie with a car chase at all, frankly) so the bar has been set pretty intimidatingly high.
Director and creator of the Mad Max franchise George Miller also provided fans with some more details about the movie in an interview with Deadline. Miller revealed the movie takes place over 15 years and called it a “saga.” This is pretty intriguing, considering the Mad Max films don’t often cover a huge span of time for their stories. It looks like we’ll really be getting an all-encompassing look at Furiosa and how she became the fierce warrior we met in Mad Mac: Fury Road.
The recent synopsis and this tidbit from George Miller give us a much more complete picture of Mad Max: Furiosa. We can add these to the other details we know, like the partial cast list and the return of Tom Holkenburg aka Junkie XL as the composer for the film. In addition to Anya Taylor-Joy in the title role, we also know Chris Hemsworth, Nathan Jones, Angus Sampson, and Tom Burke.
Now that Immortan Joe and the antagonistic Warlord Dementus are in the synopsis, it’s time to start guessing who on the cast list will play them. Sadly, Hugh Keays-Byrne passed away in 2020. Hugh Keays-Byrne played Immortan Joe in Mad Max: Fury Road, so presumably, someone on the cast list will be taking over as a younger version of Joe. Perhaps Chris Hemsworth is stepping in behind the mask. Nathan Jones and Angus Sampson are reprising their Fury Road roles, so it will not be either one of them behind the mask and breathing gear. Tom Burke was brought in to replace Yahya Abdul-Mateen II who dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Perhaps Burke is playing the Warlord Dementus role. Whoever everyone is playing, you can expect to see Mad Max: Furiosa in theaters on May 24, 2024.
