Macauley Culkin just made a bid to join the Star Wars universe, swinging a lightsaber in an Instagram sponsored post for Star Wars merchandise.

Macaulay Culkin recently took to Instagram (via Screen Rant) to post an ad for Star Wars merchandise, where he and his partner Brenda Song decide who has to respond to their baby waking up in the middle of the night with a game of Rock, Paper, Lightsaber. The ad puts the comedic talents of both actors to good use, and it also makes people excited about the prospect of either of them appearing in a Star Wars project in the future. As the caption says, both Culkin and Song consider themselves Star Wars fans, so they would surely accept a role if they were offered one.
While Macaulay Culkin may not be in Star Wars (for now) he’s been pretty busy elsewhere over the past couple of years. The former Home Alone star gave a distinctly dramatic turn in the 2021 season of American Horror Story, American Horror Story: Red Tide. In 2022, he appeared in the HBO comedy The Righteous Gemstones and he also had a role in the animated Netflix series Entergalactic.
American Horror Story: Red Tide was one of Macaulay Culkin’s biggest roles in years, and the fan reaction to his performance shows that people are definitely ready for Culkin to show up on their screens more often. Fortunately, his next project definitely seems like an interesting one. Culkin is set to have a role in the upcoming pandemic thriller Rich Flu.
Rich Flu is a thriller where a deadly disease starts killing the richest people in the world, with billionaires going first, followed by multi-millionaires, and so on. The panic causes chaos and people to sell off their assets en masse. Along with Macaulay Culkin, the film is set to star Rosamund Pike and Daniel Bruhl.
Rich Flu should definitely test Macaulay Culkin’s acting chops, as he’ll be directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who last took aim at capitalism with his 2019 film The Platform. The film became one of the most-watched Netflix original films in the first four weeks of its release. Rich Flu is also written by Gaztelu-Urrutia, along with co-writers Pedro Rivero, David Desola, and Sam Steiner.
While we wait for Rich Flu, we can definitely hope to see Macaulay Culkin do more for the Star Wars franchise than just a commercial. Star Wars is having quite the moment right now, as Andor just concluded its first season, becoming one of the most critically acclaimed Star Wars projects since the first trilogy (even though viewership is lagging behind a bit). The return of the ever-popular The Mandalorian is also on the horizon, so there’s more great Star Wars content to come.
Macaulay Culkin could certainly play a Jedi or even a Sith if asked to do so, especially because he’s apparently already handy with a lightsaber. However, it might be more interesting to see him join the rebellion in Andor or show up as a bounty hunter in The Mandalorian. Whatever way Disney would want to bring Culkin into the Star Wars universe, the fans would undoubtedly be here for it.
