One of the best characters introduced on the Disney+ crop of original Marvel TV shows is definitely coming back now that Owen Wilson has officially confirmed he’s reprising his role as TVA Agent Mobius in Loki season 2. Owen Wilson was speaking with W.I.R.E.D. for its series in which celebrities answer questions based on Google’s autofill search options related to queries like “who,” “where,” “what” and “when” in association with their name. Inevitably during his interview, the actor was made aware that people are searching “is Owen Wilson coming back to Loki?” Fortunately, he was able to confirm that Agent Morbius will indeed be back in Loki season 2.
What’s more, he was able to confirm that Loki season 2 is going to begin production relatively soon. This runs contrary to previous concerns over the production of the series based on Marvel boss Kevin Feige saying in an interview that the hunt for a new director may have waylaid the project’s start date to 2023. Luckily for Loki fans, it seems that didn’t happen and they can expect Loki season 2 a little sooner rather than way later.
The return of Owen Wilson as Agent Morbius in Loki season 2 isn’t exactly surprising given where Loki season 1 left off. After battling their way to the Citadel at the End of Time, Loki and his fellow variant Sylvie discovered the secrets of the timeline from He Who Remains (look, that’s what he’s canonically called right now, OK?) they disagree on their next move. Ultimately, Sylvie distracts Loki and sends him back to the TVA, leaving her free to kill He Who Remains and unleash every timeline there is, creating a kind of multiverse madness that even the TVA can’t prune. When Loki finds his old buddy Morbius to warn him about what’s happening, he finds that he’s landed in an alternate timeline where Morbius not only isn’t his friend but doesn’t even recognize the god of mischief.
So, where will Loki season 2 take the infamous trickster god? How will he reunite with Sylvie and either undo the mess she caused or figure out a way to rule the chaos? Sadly, there’s no real way to tell any of that right now. Other than the vague start date of “soon” and the fact that Owen Wilson will reprise his role as Morbius, Marvel is remaining typically tight-lipped about its plans for the next season. It makes sense to be playing its multiverse cards close to the vest. After wowing fans with the not so secret multiverse trickery happening in Spider-Man: No Way Home, all eyes are on Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, which dropped a trailer during the Super Bowl that’s got fans talking about all the possibilities to come for the multiverse, which now includes Loki. Collider reports that there have even been rumors the character will show up in the new Doctor Strange-led movie.
In addition to Owen Wilson and, of course, Tom Hiddleston, Loki season 2 will also see the return of TVA Judge Ravonna Renslayer, played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw, who confirmed earlier this month on Good Morning America that she’ll be returning to the fold as well. When last fans left Renslayer, she was coming to terms with the fact that everything she knew about herself and the TVA was a total lie. She set off on a journey to discover her free will. As a result, it’s unclear if she’ll be back as an ally to Loki or yet another villain standing in the way of his ascension to glorious purpose.
