The inner workings to tell a story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite complex. Story beats and character moments might get put to the side, just like getting to learn more about Mobius, Owen Wilson’s character from Loki, making us wonder if we will get something in Season 2.
Spoilers ahead for Loki with some speculation on Season 2.
Speaking with ComicBook.com, the show’s director Kate Herron went into details about how they almost explored his past. Drafts were made about a family or some other aspect of Mobius’ life outside of the Time Variance Authority. The writers could not figure something out that was right, so it was tossed to the side. With the confirmation of Loki Season 2, we could see what his life was like, and hopefully, it involves jet skis.
The third episode, titled “Lamentis”, reveals that everyone working at the Time Variance Authority is a variant, the very same kinds of people that they hunt who cause a disturbance in the Sacred Timeline. Through the series, the theory is proven with Sylvie (played by Sophia di Martino) entering the minds of Hunter B-15 (played by Wunmi Mosaku) and Hunter C-20’s (played by Sasha Lane) memories on two separate occasions. Now that Tom Hiddleson’s variant has this same power, either he or his counterpart can show Mobius his other life in Season 2 of Loki.
There is room to explore in Loki Season 2. The ending of the first season has a catastrophic result to the timeline as it splinters off to create countless universes. As the gang tries to fix this mess, or whatever they end up doing in the next outing for the Disney Plus series, it can open up the idea of seeing who Mobius was.
The debut season gave not a whole lot to go off of for who Mobius is on Earth. There have been theories, like one on Reddit, that cleverly speculates that he is Howard Stark due to some similarities in their appearance. Another idea comes from Comic Book Resources, which theorized that Owen Wilson’s character is actually a Loki variant. Maybe his fixation on jet skis is a hint to something in the back of his mind of who he really is. Regardless, he should be able to ride one in Loki Season 2.
One thing we do know about Season 2 of Loki is the absence of Kate Herron. She only planned on being for the first season. She did say she is “happy to watch it as a fan next season.”
To find out more about Mobius in Loki Season 2 needs to wait. Marvel has a long slate ahead of itself. Disney Plus will see Hawkeye and Ms. Marvel by the end of this year. Moon Knight, She-Hulk, Secret Invasion, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special are slated for next year. Sometime in the future, we will get Armor Wars, Ironheart, I Am Groot, and a currently untitled Wakanda series.
Loki Season 2 will have to compete with the movie releases as the studio tries to spread out its projects. Excluding what’s coming this year as it won’t pertain to Tom Hiddleston’s show, we will see Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on March 25, Thor: Love and Thunder on May 6, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on July 8, and The Marvels on November 11. For 2023, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on February 17, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 on May 5, and three unconfirmed movies for the rest of that year.
